Supporting One of Our Own

You didn't see me around Blood, Sweat and Gear last week because I was contributing back to Detroit on a much more personal level.

Many of you know Linda Anger, one of the founding members of MCC, a member of our board, a leader of lunches, and an all-around huge supporter of MCC and of each of us.

Linda was recently diagnosed with cancer, and was in the hospital having major surgery.  She will now need chemotherapy.

Through this whole process, Linda has been the Linda we know and love: full of possibility, finding the best, reaching out and connecting with everyone around her, being doggedly persistent in having things turn out the best way possible, and being grateful for the love and support her community has given her.

However, Linda has not one major hurdle to get over (the cancer), but two.  She doesn't have health insurance.  And through this entire process, that has given her more sleepless nights than the medical issues she's facing.

Linda has given so many of us so much.  Now it's time that we can give back to her.  There is a small group of us who are planning some fundraisers to help her defray the costs of her surgery, doctor's fees, and chemotherapy.  As soon as we have dates and events, we will be sure to post them here.  We're going to do several different kinds of events, on several different days, so as many people as possible can participate.  (Of course, being us, there will be a networking component to everything!)  And if you aren't able to attend an event but want to contribute anyway, we will set up a way to do that, as well.

This is an opportunity to give back to an important member of our community - one who has given so much to so many of us.  Stay tuned for more details.

Just sent you an e-mail with my contact information.  I look forward to the call and spending some time with you.

It's official!  The first fundraiser for Linda is set!  Here's the info:

Wednesday, August 26th, 6 to 10 pm
Fuse Lounge and Bar
227 S. Main Street
Rochester, MI 48307

We're taking over the room on the upper floor, and if we have too many people, we're going to take over the downstairs, too.  I hope we have to!  Here are the specifics:

$25 minimum donation.  This covers appetizers, too.

Cash bar - ladies, martinis are half price!  And we've negotiated reduced prices for some other drinks, as well (for guys, too...).

We'll also have a silent auction, a 50/50 raffle, and other surprises.

Of course, this will be a networking event, and we're reaching out to many different networking organizations, so I can promise you that there will be people there that you don't know - and you want to!  So be sure to bring business cards.

Please help us plan the headcount.  RSVP by emailing paul@angels4people.org

If you would like to just send in a donation for Linda, email that same address to ask for the address to send your check to.

Angels4People was formed in 2009 to provide organizational and fundraising support for people in critical times of need. Specific situations/causes are reviewed on a case-by-case basis. Michigan non-profit status is being pursued and a federal 501(c)3 designation will be applied for in the future.

If you have any questions about this event, or would like to get on the email list to be the first to find out about future fund raising events for Linda, consider being a sponsor, a silent auction donor or other volunteer or supporter, please email Paul Funk at paul@angels4people.org

PLEASE come yourself, and get this information out to everyone you know.  Let's have this kick-off event blow the socks off Linda and the Detroit business community!

P.S. - There will be more fund raising events coming.  We're planning a variety of events on a variety of days, so there will be something for everyone!  Stay tuned for more details.

Linda,

You don't know me, but I have been following your comments on MCC and your recent story.  If you haven't already, I urge you to call 1-800-ACS-2345.  It is the American Cancer Society's 24 hour help-line.  They can provide you with lots of services, advice, not to mention someone to talk with at 4 a.m. or any time you have a question.  Ask for a free "Patient Navigator" a very helpful folder to help you through your cancer journey.  It IS a journey - but you will survive.  Hang in there!  You have the support of all your friends - even some you don't know yet.

Thanks, Kathleen!  I have been intouch with ACS, and am looking forward to availing myself of all that they offer.  My oncologist gave me a really cool spiral bound book called "One Place" which has pocket folders and places to write everything down through the journey - including "tracking" sheets for the individual chemo treatments.

I wonder if that is similar to the "Patient Navigator"?  I'll call tomorrow and order one either way.

Thanks so much for your email, and your support. I've determined to be much more than a cancer "survivor" - I intend to be a CONQUERER!

Blessings -

Linda

Hi Linda!  I just sent you my contact info.  Give me a call any time to sit with you during your treatments!  Even though you will have fierce chemicals shooting through your body, I will still try to beat you at cards.  Tee hee hee!

Bridget

The domain, www.angels4people.org and link are not working correctly... goes to GoDaddy general page???

I'm concerned my RSVP was not receive since it uses the same domain. Any light to shed on this?

Julie & everybody -

Oops!  I gave that website address out too soon.  The website is being constructed, but Paul Funk, the founder of Angels4People, understandably wanted to focus on getting the fund raisers for Linda up and going rather than working on the website.  (I absolutely agree!)

In the meantime, if you have questions, or would like to volunteer to be a sponsor or silent auction donor, want to get on the email list to get first notification of events, or want to be a volunteer or supporter, please email Paul directly at paul@angels4people.org.

By the way - I've edited my original post to reflect this information, so everything in the post is accurate now.  Thanks for catching this right away!

Thanks, Natalie for getting the kick-off event for Linda Anger posted on MCC.  Thanks to Terry Bean as well and to all the other wonderful people who have responded so far.  There's plenty of room and it will be a great night of networking, fun! and support for a great friend.  Please let us know if you can make it or want to be on the email list for other upcoming events.  Please email for now as we launched the campaign before we had the website up and going..... all to support Linda.     Warmest Regards, Paul Funk   paul@angels4people.org  (ps... being a newer MCC member, I would welcome some coaching on navigating the MCC site, etc.  Please email me.)

Linda,

I will support you in any way you need it.  You will have whatever I can offer, no expectations other than you will be up and challenge free sooner!Laughing

All -

I spoke with Terry, and am willing to help.  We raise funds through my foundation to support children with cancer, so the tools will help anyone.  While I don't know all of the specifics here, I am willing to help and share information with those planning.

My cell is 734.891.3596, e-mail is syork@rosehockneyfoundation.com and the website for the foundation is www.rosehockneyfoundation.com.

All the best -

Steve

I'd be willing to meet with her and discuss an alternative way of treatment if she's willing to as well. I don't the woman at all but it seems that everyone these days is developing cancer and honestly, it's making me sick! EVERYONE has cancer and there are various ways of treating it and I'd like to give her to best I know. She can contact me through my profile page.

You all amaze me, and fill my heart with such joy  ---  I cannot thank you enough!

In case you didn't see the new thread I started, I have created a blog through CaringBridge (an org specifically for people with cancer and other serious conditions).  You can follow my progress - as I beome Linda, The Conqueress - - at this link:

http://www.caringbridge.org/visit/lindaanger

There is a box to check if you want notifications of new posts, and you can also leave me words of encouragement, silly jokes, responses to requests for specific "stuff" or people I might need to find, by signing the guestbook (as often as you like).  Direct email is always appreciated, and my email address is listed on the blog site.

With deep gratitude and much love -

Linda, the Conqueress

Are you coming to our first fundraiser for Linda? It is this Wednesday, August 26th, at Fuse in downtown Rochester, and we hope to see you - it's going to be the place to be and a great business and social networking event!

If you have not registered yet, please email your contact info to paul@angels4people.org to help us plan the headcount, etc. We want to make sure we have enough of the wonderful appetizers they're providing!  Even a regrets email is appreciated as it will get you on the list for future event announcements.

We have been getting a HUGE outpouring of offers for help and donations, especially for our silent auctions. Please keep them coming!

However, a couple of notes about silent auction donations: Please DON'T just bring your item to the event, as we already have all the items set for the Fuse event. We have several events planned and there will be a silent auction at all of them. We want to be sure to place your donation at the right event, and present a mix of items so everybody can participate. If you bring your item to an event and we aren't expecting it, we can't guarantee its placement or safety. We don't want it to get damaged, or heaven forbid, disappeared!

We have two people managing the silent auction donations/process - Nancy Beausoleil and Kim Smith. Since Nancy is an MCC member, our request is that you email Nancy at soleilnancy@comcast.net and Paul Funk at paul@angels4people.org with your offer and information about your donation. Nancy or Kim will contact you - we promise! We have a number of events coming up in a fairly short period of time, so you WILL be contacted. (If you have already emailed, we have your offer, so you don't need to resend it.)

This community has been so generous and so caring, and it is so appreciated. We want to make sure that your generosity makes the biggest impact it can, and we want this whole process to work for you (as well as us!). If you have any questions or concerns about silent auction donations, please contact Nancy.

See you on Wednesday!

  "PARTY WITH A PURPOSE"

Dear Friends and Acquaintances of Linda Anger,

As you know, Linda needs our help! I don't know Linda well, but I want to help!! I am donating 35% of all web site sales to Linda, to help defray some of her medical bills.

35% of all purchases made on my web site between 9/1 and 11/1 will be given to Linda. (Please type "Linda" in the comments box.) With the holidays approaching soon, think about gifts for loved ones. All purchases will be shipped to you free of cost within 48 hours.  Any questions, feel free to contact me at 586-484-1768.

Thank you in advance for your support. I know that Linda will appreciate anything we can do.

Georgette Sarzyenski

Dear Georgette:

I am most grateful for your willingness to help - thank you so much for donating a portion of your profits!

Please
understand that to stay in the good graces of the
IRS, I CANNOT accept money from you directly. Any funds you wish to
donate should go to Angels4People,
the non-profit org run by Paul
Funk.  Contact him for specifics of how your check should read, and the
address to send it to: paul@angels4people.org.

You have my deepest gratitude - I hope that in coming months I will be able to attend group functions again. At present, my oncologist insists that I stay away from group functions. The risk of infection (while my immune system is compromised by the chemo drugs) is too high. Once I can get out, though, I look forward to thanking everyone personally - including you!

Make your day magnificent!

Linda
