Supporting One of Our Own

You didn't see me around Blood, Sweat and Gear last week because I was contributing back to Detroit on a much more personal level.

Many of you know Linda Anger, one of the founding members of MCC, a member of our board, a leader of lunches, and an all-around huge supporter of MCC and of each of us.

Linda was recently diagnosed with cancer, and was in the hospital having major surgery.  She will now need chemotherapy.

Through this whole process, Linda has been the Linda we know and love: full of possibility, finding the best, reaching out and connecting with everyone around her, being doggedly persistent in having things turn out the best way possible, and being grateful for the love and support her community has given her.

However, Linda has not one major hurdle to get over (the cancer), but two.  She doesn't have health insurance.  And through this entire process, that has given her more sleepless nights than the medical issues she's facing.

Linda has given so many of us so much.  Now it's time that we can give back to her.  There is a small group of us who are planning some fundraisers to help her defray the costs of her surgery, doctor's fees, and chemotherapy.  As soon as we have dates and events, we will be sure to post them here.  We're going to do several different kinds of events, on several different days, so as many people as possible can participate.  (Of course, being us, there will be a networking component to everything!)  And if you aren't able to attend an event but want to contribute anyway, we will set up a way to do that, as well.

This is an opportunity to give back to an important member of our community - one who has given so much to so many of us.  Stay tuned for more details.

Hearing of a good person like this facing huge medical bills without health inurance makes me angry and more determined than ever for a reform of our healthcare system. I would like to see the gold-plated health insurance policies of our elected representatives taken away. I suspect we would see reform very quickly.

Thank you for sharing Linda's details, Natalie.  I, too, would like to help and will donate my services in the form of a gift certificate for image coaching as auction item(s).  Please, when appropriate, post the official contact to forward gift donations to, and please also list any other needs.  Much love and strength to Linda -- and to you as her angel of support.

This is a true representation of what community is all about.  Sorry to hear all the challenges you are facing Linda, but we believe in your strength to overcome, divine healing, and the support and encouragement of friends to help see you through.  Count me in as one who holds up up in prayer, thoughts of compassion and support in any way I can.

I'm in and I can communicateto/connect you with all her NAWBO sisters.

Dear Everyone Who has posted Here:

I sat in my temporary bedroom (in my mother's house) and wept as I read your posts. I cannot tell you how much it means to me that so many people - even those I have never met - are so willing and gracious.

Dealing with cancer was a shock. Learning, after surgery, that things were worse than expected and I will be having chemo AND radiation for the better part of 7 months (unless we can find a clinical trial) was an even stronger blow.

But as Natalie said in the original post, I refuse to be defeated, am looking to the positive, learning some things about myself I never knew before, and even though I have to admit to being scared and overwhelmed, I know I will get through this.

Please know how grateful I am for all of you...

Dwight, when you are ready to start the process to relieve our gov't officials of their gold-clad insurance plans, let me know - I will be a willing and unstoppable part of your team!

And Judy, I would be very grateful if you would pass the info on to my NAWBO sisters - some, but not all, already know.

I would love emails from all of you - -  linda@thewriteconcept.com

Even an "I'm thinking of you" email means the world to me right now.

With deep gratitude and much love,

Linda, the Conqueress

Linda,

I posted an abbreviated version of the info and your response on NAWBO Greater Detroit and the National NAWBO LinkedIN groups. I will do an "ask" for a mention in the Chapter's Monday e-newsletter.

Please let us know what else we can do.

Judy

I craft jewelry and would love to donate to a fundraising event. Just let me know.

If anyone can think of a creative fundraiser at a tea room, I'd love for us to use Tyme Well Spent Tea Room, where I'm a partner. I am also happy to donate any consulting, training or related products to the cause on behalf of my other ventures.

Linda is one of THE BEST people, both professionally and personally - a true inspiration. Let's make it happen for her!

Linda, you are a true professional and asset to our community. Your determination and positive attitude is an encouragement to us all.

You All Rock!  Thank you so much.  Tamme, I didn't know you were involved in a Tea Room - please let me know where it is located so I can support you in that - particularly now that I have learned I must give up coffee as it creates the acidic environment in which cancer loves to live - along with all foods white and sugary.

Another request I have is that each of you who have mentioned items for a silent auction PLEASE send a direct email to Natalie@thesparksite.com with the particulars of your donation so that she can begin to track everything (I will be helping her as best I can).

I'm feeling fairly good today. It will be another 2-4 weeks before I start chemo, so if you are inclined to meet for tea or something, please send me a direct email (linda@thewriteconcept.com) - I'd love to get out of here for an hour or two!

With a smile on my face, and joy in my heart -

Linda

I'm not the most articulate man on the planet, so I'll make this simple. How can I help.

Linda -

We have neer met in person but I find your posts and the way you lead your life inspiring. As part of Terry's team,, let me know what we can do.

All the best

Renee

I don't personally know Linda, but she's one of us, and my thoughts and prayers go out to her.

I am a nurse with 2 chronic illnesses, and although I have health insurance, it hasn't even come close to covering my medical bills.

Linda, myself and thousands of others have experienced the stress of paying for healthcare.  Until you face this kind of devastation you do not understand how we must advocate for health reform.

If I can help do anything with a fundraiser for Linda, please let me know.

If you'd like to send Linda a card in the mail, you can do so FOR FREE by following these steps:

1.  Go to www.easy2sendcards.com

2.  Put in User ID and Password of:  AcardforLinda  then hit login.

3.  Click on card catalog (upper left) and click on whatever category of card you'd like to send.

4.  When you find the card you want to send, click on greeting card icon below that card design.

5.  Put in your personal message.  Click continue.

6.  Click at bottom of envelope screen on "Choose from Contact Manager" and click "choose contact" at right next to Linda's name.  Also take a moment to update the return address in upper left with your information.   Click continue.

7.  Continue past gift screen to final screen and click "send card" in lower right.

The card will go out the next business day and Linda will receive it in 2-3 days.

Cost of card and postage is FREE for all Motor City Connect members.   It's a little thing I can do to contribute to helping keep Linda's spirits high and what better way than receiving a card from her MCC "family."

Any questions, pls call me.

Hello Natalie

I had sent a private message to you a few weeks ago when Linda had found out.  But had not heard back from you.  Wondering what I can do to be of help b/c I care about Linda.  Last thing she needs is the stress of having to pay cash for all of this.

Serving...

Pam
