Supporting One of Our Own

You didn't see me around Blood, Sweat and Gear last week because I was contributing back to Detroit on a much more personal level.

Many of you know Linda Anger, one of the founding members of MCC, a member of our board, a leader of lunches, and an all-around huge supporter of MCC and of each of us.

Linda was recently diagnosed with cancer, and was in the hospital having major surgery.  She will now need chemotherapy.

Through this whole process, Linda has been the Linda we know and love: full of possibility, finding the best, reaching out and connecting with everyone around her, being doggedly persistent in having things turn out the best way possible, and being grateful for the love and support her community has given her.

However, Linda has not one major hurdle to get over (the cancer), but two.  She doesn't have health insurance.  And through this entire process, that has given her more sleepless nights than the medical issues she's facing.

Linda has given so many of us so much.  Now it's time that we can give back to her.  There is a small group of us who are planning some fundraisers to help her defray the costs of her surgery, doctor's fees, and chemotherapy.  As soon as we have dates and events, we will be sure to post them here.  We're going to do several different kinds of events, on several different days, so as many people as possible can participate.  (Of course, being us, there will be a networking component to everything!)  And if you aren't able to attend an event but want to contribute anyway, we will set up a way to do that, as well.

This is an opportunity to give back to an important member of our community - one who has given so much to so many of us.  Stay tuned for more details.

THANK YOU BARB!
This is a wonderful idea and very generous of you.

I tried it - I keep get stuck after choosing a card - it keeps looping back to memebr login - over and over and over again.

Please help!

Barb, you are such a dear!  Thank you - and I would LOVE to get a flood of cards!

I'm happy to help where I can.  Linda,  I wish you all the best and lots of strength and joyful moments.   You are deeply loved and will not be alone in this battle.

Get well soon Linda. Anything I can do to help.

Linda,

I am going to get you connected with two groups I know of...one is called ChemoAngels and the other is a group of women in the Detroit area that can get you a beautiful wig and some other cool stuff that you will need and like...they are a group of women who've been through this themselves, though their name escapes me right now.  I'm also going to see what I find out from a group I belong to call FORCE (Facing Our Risk of Cancer Empowered ...its a group for heriditary breast/ovarian cancer and they have resources too).  I'll get back to you on all this via email.

Natalie, we don't know each other but  please please call me at 586-212-1053.  I want to help and help a lot.  I know some of the best fundraisers include bowling night and spaghetti dinners(With the auctions held at these events.) I've been involved in a lot of this stuff before.

You may have cancer, but cancer does NOT have you.  You have what it takes to kick cancer's ass.  I'll help.

Natalie,

Please count me in as well!  I am so happy to see all the warm thoughts & helpful people out there.  I consider myself lucky to have been touched by Linda & am willing to help her anyway I can.  Sent her a text on Friday & she was definitely happy to hear from me.

I learned just recently about Linda's situation. Initially, I felt very sad, and then I clearly recalled the strength of this woman that I've had the pleasure to know for a number of years.

I definitely will participate in fundraising. In talking to Linda today, she so appreciates all of our positive thoughts and prayers. Linda, I'll stay in touch...

My best,    Anahid

Hello everyone!

Thank you so much for all your posts and offers of assistance.  Natalie has asked me to pull together the offers for auction items, so I will be contacting you all very soon.  In addition, if you offered your help and left a phone number expect a call from me too.  I will be looking for more items either from you or someone you think may be willing to donate.

Together we will make a difference for Linda and kick some cancer butt!!!

oh..and even if you didn't leave a phone number, I will contact you on MCC.

Thanks again!!

I will donate a gift certificate.

I would like to help too! I would be happy to help with tying in a fundraiser to one of the Free and Fabulous Girls Night Out Events or Broadway In Detroit/Fisher Theatre events, help create a specific fundraiser event, find items she needs and/or connect her with anyone else who can help too! Please keep me posted.
My thoughts and prayers are with her to get through this.

Hello, All -

I continue to be blown away by your generosity and outpouring of spirit and positive energy, and hope that once I am hearty and hale again, I can do the same for each of you.

Bless you all.

With love and gratitude,

Linda

Linda -- I wanted to pass along some resources to you during this difficult time.  We have a mutual friend Jill Gleba who may have given you my contact info, but I thought I would provide some details here too.

As a conqueror I can relate and will keep you in my thoughts and prayers.  I would be happy to talk anytime so please feel free to give me a call.

Resources --

One is The C Club for Conquerors.  Member Lisa Mininni can fill you in on more details, but The C Club will provide you some inspiration during this difficult time and will also help you figure out how to move forward after such a life changing event.

The other is The Pink Fund (Molly MacDonald can provide more info, not sure if she is a member but I have her contact info if needed).  The Pink Fund offers some financial resources to help people who need assistance.

Best of luck to you during this time.  Best,
Janine Krasicky

Hi again, everyone -

I've been the clearinghouse for all the support and offers to help for Linda, and I have to tell you, I'm completely overwhelmed!  I'm not saying that in a bad way, and I'm NOT asking you to stop being so generous.  But the outpouring of support from you all is really amazing - and I'm not even Linda!

I know I haven't responded personally to many of you. Mostly, I've been waiting to get concrete information to give you - and sometimes your communication has gotten buried under all the other ones that have come in.

Just so you know, one thing that has come out of all this is that a member of our Fundraising Steering Committee is actually starting a charity to do this sort of thing for more people than just Linda, because the need is so great.  (Linda, yet another way you've made a difference!)  We're calling it Angels4People, and that's what you all are - angels.  Personally, I can't thank you enough for opening your hearts to Linda.  You are so generous, with your time, your talents, your caring - and your wallets! - and it is a privilege to "know" all of you.

P.S. - We're VERY CLOSE to announcing the details about our first fundraiser.  Keep watching here for the particulars, and then spread the word!  I'd love to have our kick-off fundraiser be a blow-out.  We're planning several different events, on different days, so you'll be able to pick your fun!  We'll give you dates and times on everything as soon as we get it nailed down.

Dear MCC Friends:

I will be starting chemotherapy next week. It appears the treatments will be as much as 8 hours long, at Crittenton Hospital in Rochester.

The hospital encourages patients to have friends or family sit with them during treatment (it's all intravenous), and I know my 84-year-old mom can't handle a full day of that, so I'm asking if any of you are willing to be on my "treatment buddy" list.... people I can ask to come sit with me (play cards, chess, tell dirty jokes, etc.) for an hour or two during treatment.

I don't have dates yet - but should have by the end of the week.  If you are willing to be on the list of people I can call, please email me with your email address and phone number.   linda@thewriteconcept.com

Thanks so much -

Linda
