Welcome to the 3rd quarter of 2009
I just sent this blast:
It's been an interesting year thus far in the Detroit area. Lots has changed and some has stayed the same. We have been hit with with a roller coaster of doors closing and a few big ones opening. Many of our friends and families have been effected. Business has gone on and there are reports that the 2nd quarter has shown growth. Growth is good, right? I'm not worried about business, I'm worried about you. Are you pleased with your results so far? Are there new things you have been trying? What's worked? What hasn't? Why not join in the conversation and learn from and share with others in the group. What areas of improvement have you identified? How can the members of MCC help you? In this NOW economy, we need to band together now more than ever to make an impact. That was the point of Monday's note. If we don't know who you are and what you're about it's harder for us to do so. Please, read no more into than that. Speaking of Monday's note... The $5.00 a month conversation is going strong. I am enjoying seeing responses for and against from people I know well and have never met. Keep 'em coming. To those of you have said "This is your group" I say "Barnacles! This isn't my group, it isn't your group, it's our group". Believe me, if it were my group I would have charged a LONG time ago HAHA. Join the conversation here. The Blood, Sweat and Gear Campaign It's in full swing. Our second meeting will be held at Blightbusters in Historic Redford. If you have ever been there you know they have an awesome theatre and the best Sweet Potato Pies EVER. Come meet with us this Friday (no work is happening anyway) at 9:30 a.m. for a tour and some awesome energy. More details can be found here. We are still accepting logos for the contest, details are here. Have you joined our subgroup? It is located here. Finally, please follow us on twitter at twitter.com/bloodsweatgear. Online networking helps grow Business in the NOW economy Join us tonight for Social Media 101 training at MCC HQ or tomorrow for Linkedin training at Automation Alley. I had a client who had a marketing budget that supported both my retainer and his tactics. (In fact, all of that came under budget.) Only problem was, he was grossly mistaken in his marketing budget. And what tactics worked a mere year ago fell absolutely flat today. Yet he needed help to increase his customer base, to increase sales, as we'd been working on -- but couldn't afford it. Seems like many small businesses are in similar dire straits, as Michigan's been in recession for 8 or more years now. So while I would like to help build up this area while building my business, this doesn't seem possible. Please tell me where I'm wrong. What am I missing? I'm open to thinking very differently, a la Tom Peters, but am very perplexed. Or is the NOW economy not a viable model for such a resource-depleted state as Michigan? I invite your comments.
I think what makes MCC so special is that it is a celebration of people joining together to achieve their own personal goals. It is a wonderful experience. And that will be different for each one of us. To me wandering through here is akin to walking around Chicago and experiencing a little of everything. Although a $5 fee could be considered incidential I believe that the magic of MCC is in its freedom.
I do not see that a fee will accomplish much in the way of increasing board participation. Because someone does not post does not automatically mean they are not communicating with others, just that they may not yet have a comfort level with social networking or literally do not have time to post. I do agree that a complete profile should be mandatory, complete with photo!
Please think of other ways to generate dollars needed to keep up this wonderful experience you have created.
