What's your best tip for MCC or networking newbies?

Hey there Connectors-
We have had a lot of new people join and I want to make sure they get some sage advice regarding being a part of our network.
What wisdom can you share about making MCC work for them?
Mine is simple:
Be interested prior to being interesting.

To start, Volume #6 is spot on.
I like to think that networking starts at the core. Possible 5 or 6 great contacts you could say were even friends. This core then also has their own core that influences others and so this ripple effect takes place. Here is a link to a Squidoo lens I wrote on this idea; What networking is to me.
It is also important to me to offer genuine help to folks, and to do it with no hidden agenda. Be a cool dude (or dudette) and your blessing will come back to you 10 fold. Was that too religious sounding? Hmm.

I love MCC! Every time I check out the web site I learn something new. I hope, over time, I will meet and get to know many members. The information being provided is genuine and sincere. Some of the advice should be "common sense" but it does get me thinking...thanks to all of you for opening my eyes - again!

MCC is absolutely the best in sharing great ideas and suggestions ...
but as we are talking about a NEWBIEs --
The first step in successful networking is to obtain business cards; sounds so elementary, but even today, I meet people who still do not have business cards.
WHEN attending an event, ask what you can do for them; opens a friendly dialogue; and makes YOU memorable to them.

I can tie most of this years income to relationships build through MCC. The key to great networking is to build deeper relationships than just exchanging business cards. Find people you want to know and then get to know them.
I'm relatively new to MCC, and frankly don't have much to add to the sage advice given here.
Show up! Show up! Show up! I think I learned in grade school that 95% of winning was just bothering to show up.
And it works. I'm starting to see some of the same people at events and develope some repoire.
Can't recall who I heard this from: "Networking doesn't count until the second meeting." You have to make a genuine connection *and* maintain it over time.

Thanks for the great tip and wisdom on networking on MCC. I am very interested in joining a group and coming to a networking even. I am college student at Baker College and will be graduating next year. I also work in the auto industry and looking to expand my career options.

Set a goal of how many people to talk to in one event. 2 to 3 is a good start. Realize you cannot talk or connect to everyone at once. Besides that is overwhelming and a lot of pressure
