Favorite locally owned stores worthy of our networking love?
Do you know a truly great local independent retailer here in SE Michigan who is quite worthy of some of our networking love, and hasn't gotten squeezed out by all the big box national chains?
I'm wondering about your favorite places where you specifically shop that are locally owned and operated. As I drive around, I see endless strip centers, malls and retail space that all could be the same in any major US city.. Tough financial times have made it a challenge for these local heroes to hang in there - but there are a few who actually are making a go of it ... and go unheralded.
Let all us know where you spend your dollars locally to all of us and point us in a direction where our dollars could also make a difference in the local economy.

When I think of locally owned stores, I think just that. I think of family businesses. They are small business and need our support. If you are a small business, you just how it is. Three come to mind immediately.
Alterations by Rozi, Howell. I use her for all my alterations, she is great and personable.
Then there is Howell Market, on Grand River, in Howell, their prices may be a little more, but there veggies and fruit are always fresh (not like Walmart's) and when I go in there to get milk and tomotoes, that is what I get, so I save a lot of money.
There is also, Howell True Value Hardware, on D-19 in Howell. I go there for almost all of my hardware needs. I can buy the 2 screws I need, not a package of 24. Also when I have a screw I don't know the size of they do. They have been in business forever and they know the hardware business. You talk to them, the owners, not to the person who is there to stock the shelves. I recommend them for all you hardware needs.

Frenz Hardware on Main in Royal Oak has fantastic service. I'm always having bizarre problems at my house (circa 1922) and they always seem to know what to do.
I second Anita's kitchen for great food, but I go to the one on 14 Mile.
And Frittatas in Clawson has awesome breakfast/brunch food. And let's not forget Lily's Seafood in Royal Oak. I'm a member of Stagecrafters and we like to hang out there. Debby Ball

I'll add an amen to Frenz Hardware. It's the place I go when all else fails.
OK, Permission to change it up a bit ... is there a cool block or strip of a downtown or retail belt or business district that is fun, funky, fashionable and fantastic ... tell us where and name drop your favorite stores there too!
Main Street down town Brighton, with it small shops including Wildnerness and His Bible Store. During the Summer with all it street Festivals and it's terrifice Farmer's Market.

I need to recommend a sushi bar in Berkley on 12 mile called -- Nippon Grille for two reasons -- The food, and maybe more importantly the service. The owner, Tot Ngyuen, I think knows every customer who walks in the door by name. "Hello, Mr. Jason", he says everytime I go in for carryout or dining in. "How is Mrs. Hope" (my wife). He really truly cares about his customers and the food is fantastic. Try it...You'll like it.

The other store I would recommend is Global Wireless on Orchard Lake in West Bloomfield. If you have any Verizon needs, call Marty Rosen or David Rogovein at 248-681-7200. They will take care of you.

So many great locations listed here. Some of which I've been to and others are WELL-WORTH a visit to see.
Here are a few businesses (yes you can tell fashion is one of my focus areas as a photographer). You can mention Fuzzytek at any of them and they will know me.

I know *someone* is going to see that I missed referencing them. I could go on with 50 more listings of retail establishments. However I know LOTS of designers that you will NOT find in stores! We hold fashion shows to show you what they have, so please attend and ask for the designer after the show. If we aren't supporting local designers, then who is?
Ladies you know that wearing something original to the holiday parties IS the thing to do. When you spot your dress on her across the room what is that feeling? If you shop local you can buy YOUR wardrobe, made with the fabric that works for YOU and fits YOU like nobody else. Work with your designer, show them love and respect, get their business cards, and SHOW THEIR WORK OFF! They will love you in return.
Honey Bee/La Colmena Market on Bagley in southwest Detroit is a great, family-owned local supermarket. They just recently expanded and are doing fabulous business. They make the best guacamole!

In North Troy/Rochester Hills, I get all my beer and wine from Ye Olde Wine Shoppe at the corner of Crooks Rd. & South Boulevard.
Look for Denny Walsh (the owner), he's always there, and takes very good care of his customers
