Linguistic Transformation

I had the good fortune of having lunch today with Rachel Williams and our own Charlie Wollborg. The primary topic of our conversation was how to make the motorcity a better place to live, work and play.

Rachel brought up the concept of "linguistic transformation". Charlie called it "Reframing". I call it "what you look for, you see". Regardless of what you call it, it means YOU have the ability to control your surroundings. It's all about having the right mindset.

Sure there is a lot of less than great things happening in our community, but how do you engage in those conversations? Do you pile on with bad news? Do you simply walk away? Or do you bring up the positive things that you and/or those you know are doing to make this a better place?

You can control your surroundings by using the right words to describe what goes on. You can reframe a conversation and make it more enjoyable. You can look for positive things and I promise you will find them. Great things happen in this town everyday. I encourage you to be a part of them. Feel free to leave the rest of what happens in this town where it belongs...

While I enjoyed lunch with my wife today, Charlie, Terry and Rachel are a close second to Sarah ( yes it would take all three of them to make me enjoy lunch that much)

Anyway Terry you preach the gospel when it come to great attitude = great results. Most of us are familiar with the laws of attraction and the laws of reciprocity.  The Metro Detroit Area is trying desperately to get a message of growth and hope for more growth out there.

Watching the Olympics I see the Jeff Daniel commercials. Being an MCC member, Automation Alley Member, http://metromodemedia.com/ reader, and using twitter. I see a Detroit that is growing, changing, evolving, and maturing.

"When superior people hear of the Way, they carry it out with diligence. When middling people hear of the Way, it sometimes seems to be there, sometimes not. When lesser people hear of the Way, they ridicule it greatly. If they didn't laugh at it, it wouldn't be the Way."

from Tao Te Ching

Terry,

I have shared the exact point of view for a long time. "You see what you want to see"

After reading the some books on Buddhism (Yes, you heard it right - it talks about the same thing and  I just like to read about different things) and a book called "7 habits of Highly effective people" by Steven covey - I have realized an practiced the importance of the perspective shift or the paradigm shift in a positive direction

I also believe - Good things happen outside (you) because you are positive(/happy) inside contradictory to what most believe which is that, You can be happy inside because good things happen outside.

Only concern/ Suggestion/Added info:

The only thing that I would like to add is as much as we say that we need to see thing & put things in a positive way, we must also be sure not to take away the seriousness or the need of the not so positive things in Detroit to be taken on the lighter side because a lot of people do not do much, unless they feel the seriousness of the situation or even the real need.

What I mean is while having a positive attitude we must be also careful not to ignore the facts and also "self believe" that thing are great while we have room for improvement !
