VP/Director of Sales for a new media company - Remote or Relocate to Chicago/NYC
We are conducting an executive search for the VP/Director of Sales for a new media company. Our client prefers candidates who are already living in the New York City or Chicago area. However, he may consider candidates that are willing to relocate or work remotely. Candidates must have extensive experience selling new media and/or online advertising to advertising agencies, retailers and big name brands. This is a management position. You will be part of the core executive team that includes the CEO. Initially, this will also be an individual contributor position. Need someone that can be very hands-on, roll up their sleeves and do whatever it takes to build revenues while building the team. Company has approximately a dozen employees and is already generating revenues. Company already has many reference-able clients that have already renewed their contracts. This is an excellent opportunity to build something from scratch and get in early before the company closes its Series B. This is a key hire. Board is willing and able to put together the right package for the right candidate.

POSITION: VP/Director of Sales. Need someone that can be hands-on initially while building and running their own team. This is a management position. You will be part of the core executive team that includes the CEO. Initially, this will also be an individual contributor position. Need someone that can be very hands-on, roll up their sleeves and do whatever it takes to build revenues while building the team. Need someone that is very strategic and hungry. Someone with a passion for winning. Someone who will make sure the revenues targets are met and/or exceeded. Someone who leaves their ego at the door. Need someone that knows how to work smart. Need someone experienced at creating AND executing a strategic sales plan.
COMPANY: New media company. Company already has many reference-able clients that have already renewed their contracts. This is an excellent opportunity to get in early before the company closes its Series B.
LOCATION: Position can be located in New York City and/or Chicago. Client prefers New York, but would be open to an outstanding candidate in Chicago. Chicago candidate should be willing to travel 75% of time. Working remotely may be a possibility for the right candidate.
COMPENSATION: This is a key hire. Board is willing and able to put together the right package for the right candidate. The compensation package will include: base salary, bonus, and stock options. Plus, there is a full benefits package. There will be an emphasis on incentives for outstanding performance. The Board wants to hire someone who is very hungry and motivated.
MANAGEMENT STYLE/CORPORATE CULTURE: This position reports to the CEO. He will only hire someone who is a team player and does not need to be micromanaged. Basically, he prefers to agree to a set of objectives making sure that the objectives are clearly outlined and understood by the individual, then let the individual execute the plan. But, he expects the individual to keep him informed of progress. Individual must be able to go the CEO when in need of help. He will only hire someone that is very entrepreneurial and passionate with a burning hunger for success; someone with a vision. He wants people with new ideas and strong opinions, but able to move in a fast paced, ever-changing start up environment. Corporate culture is very team oriented and results focused. There is open communication and exchange of new ideas.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
-- Must have recent and significant experience managing an individual and/or team quota as a SVP, VP or Director selling new media and/or online advertising to advertising agencies, retailers and big name brands such as Coca-Cola, Visa, Ford, Target, Wal-Mart, Sony, Apple, Ogilvy & Mather, Leo Burnet, McCann, etc.
-- Must have a well developed "Rolodex" of key contacts (decision makers) at ad agencies, retailers and big name brands.
-- Must have a record of quota over-achievement.
-- Prefer candidates that have previously taken a company with less than $1M in revenues and helped build it into a company with revenues in the multi-millions within a relatively short period of time.
-- Prefer candidates that can bring some people on board that you have worked with previously. You will be fully in charge of your numbers, growth and hiring plan. Need someone that can build a top grade sales and marketing team from the ground up. Someone who can ensure that the team has the best possible talent (A players) at each level. Structure comp & incentive plans. Coach and keep top talent and remove non-performers efficiently. Also establish sales processes, tracking and visibility.
