You know what sucks about Motor City Connect?
The consistency of it. Or should I say, the lack of consistency of it.
And by "it", I of course mean me.
It's crazy, sometimes I have boundless energy to put toward it. There are no shortage of ideas on how to make this a better community. Just a shortage of execution.
This is no doubt due in part to a shortage of people doing the executing. I own this. At one point we had a top shelf team who was ready to roll their sleeves up and make great things happen. And we did. For a while. But at the time, I wasn't really ready to make my gift (I've always considered MCC my gift to the Detroit area) a business.
In all honesty, it's really difficult to be in the business of "giving" AND expecting to get something in return. It just doesn't seem right. So the equation would always feel off. I could spend hours helping others move forward, and not get nearly anything in return (I say "I could spend" and my wife would assure you that "I have spent"
Of course, I own that too. It's nobody else's fault that I love to help others succeed AND I don't do a great job of making it easy to give me referrals. Between my "business personality disorder" (I have a few too many businesses LOL) and my shyness when it comes to actually asking for help for me, it's very tough to simply ASK for what I want.
For the past 2.5 years I've contemplated many different solutions to the "consistency challenge". They've ranged from building a new software platform to house MCC and revolutionizing social networking (I've got some amazing things planned if you all would be interested) to shooting MCC right between the eyes and never thinking about it again. And of course, everything in between.
My best guess is the group as a whole (at least those of you who pay attention) can sense the shifts.
As I think about it, I would really like to take this whole thing to the next level. I know it would be beneficial for you all, which in turn makes it beneficial for our community. Anyone want to join me on a new adventure? From my perspective it would start with a little encouragement from you. If received, I would lay out a plan for how we could move forward. At that point, you could decide if you wanted to go for the ride.
