Dancin' in the Streets

Terry hit the proverbial nail on the head today when he said that regardless of where we call "home" - West Bloomfield, Grosse Pointe, Novi - we are ALL Detroiters. She's our city, a beautiful gem tarnished by neglect and indifference - until now. Make your mama proud - join the MCC Blightbusters Team as we sing and swing and dance our way to a cleaner, safer city for everyone - May 31. Sign up via the calendar post.

You Goin'?

Does anyone have a boom box and some Motown CDs we can use for the day?

And, with all due respect to Martha Reeve (yes, that Martha Reeve, the one on the City Council) and the Vandellas:

Callin' out around the world
Are you ready for a brand new beat?
Summer's here and the time is right
For cleanin' up the streets
We'll be sparklin' up Brightmoor
Helping our city Shine

All we need is music, sweet music
There'll be music everywhere
We'll be swingin' (hammers), swayin' (rakes)
And dancin' in the streets

Oh, it doesn't matter what you wear
Just as long as you are there

So come on, every guy grab a girl
Everywhere around the town
and start dancin'
dancin' in the street

This is an invitation
To the MCC nation

A chance for the folks to meet
We'll be laughin' and singin' with hammers swingin'
And dancin' in the streets

Yeah don't forget the Motor City (can't forget the Motor City)

(Thanks, Martha!)

Martha seems rather busy with the affairs of state these days.

Martha used to be my neighbor - she's interesting.  Her travel trunk was in the storage unit next to mine, and let me tell you, very cool.  Shame what happened to her at her "recording" house where her gear got stolen.

I am hoping to go - it's looking more and more like I can - so if I do I'll put together some motown on a CD, I own more of it than I care to admit...

You Rock, Jeremiah!

Intresting Fact: the Jerry Garcia Band played a lot of GD stuff, a number of classic balads, and a TON of classic motown. The band the played at my wedding ( david appelman who is an MCC member played in the band and now is a regular member... how is that for a good networking story) ( sorry for the ADD side story) Anyway, the band that played my wedding is also a Jerry Garcia Cover band, and my firends LOVED it because we danced all night. My relatives thought it was so cool to hear these version of old songs they love.

Bottom line, Get some Jerry to listen to.

Duane,

I had no idea, If you search Jerry Garcia Band own loads, there is plenty of quality stuff do download. If you are cheap and ok with learning some new technology, check out ETree and use Bit Torrent to download a plethora of great and rare stuff.

And for the hard rockers out there Van Halen rocked out that tune on one of their albums

Does anyone know where I can find any old Motown amd Soul music on vinyl from the sixties???? Smile

John

There are a couple of shops in Ferndale and Royal Oak that have them. I know Gizmo on Washington has old and new stuff.

Good Luck!
