Free PR -- Look like an expert and help out reporters!
Recently, I learned about a site run by a PR guy in New York named
Peter Shankman called Help A Reporter Out (HARO). The site:
http://www.helpareporter.com/
If you sign up for the list, you
get about 3 e-mails each day (morning, afternoon, evening) full of
queries by journalists looking for sources. You see one that's
relevant, you e-mail the reporter and maybe you get quoted as a source -- free publicity! A fellow attorney who does insurance defense work has already been quoted in the Wall Street Journal and New York Times as a result of his responses to HARO queries.
I'm not at all affiliated with this site -- I just think it's a great concept and thought I'd pass it on to the MCC community! Peter is always looking for more reporters to utilize the site, also, so feel free to pass on the info to any journalists you know (it's totally free for them to use, and totally free for you and PR pros to use!)
Have a fantastic week!

Thank you, Karen!
For those of us who are involved in PR efforts for our clients and communities, this is a great opportunity -
I've signed up for the emails.
Make your day magnificent!

Thanks! This is very helpful
Karen - thank you so much for starting this thread. In the first message of Peter's I received, I found three requests that were perfect for my clients, or people in my network. I then posted a request on the Shankman list, asking for entrepreneurial stories for a book I am co-authoring. Two hours later, the first story arrived, and I've since received two dozen responses from that posting.
That we can share resources this way is one of the best parts of MCC.

This is a great tip! Thank you for sharing with the group. We can all use some extra publicity.

Karen, I love HARO and had a reporter friend sign up and her parents got interviewed for a front page story. I also secured an opportunity through the HARO list. It is a wonderful resource and it was a great idea to post it here. I add to Karen's enthusiasm and encourage everyone to sign up. It's free and Peter's intros are hilarious.
Have a great day everyone!
