The Six-Word Challenge
The Six-Word Challenge
True communication is based in clarity. Great writing - or speaking - is lean and muscular, and editing is an important art. Great writers weigh every word, every phrase, every paragraph and point for its value, impact, and propel-ability.
In the 1920s, Ernest Hemingway - the master of "word economy" - was challenged to write a complete story in just six words. He won the challenge, earning $10 for his success.
His story: "For Sale: Baby Shoes. Never Worn."
So I make the same challenge to MCC members across the world: send me your six-word story. I'll ask a few other MCC heroes to judge with me, and the person with the most profound, impactful, or outrageously funny entry wins ten bucks, a "Hemingway Hero" call-out in my June newsletter, and special recognition right here on Collective X.

How about some books, PLEASE?
~Jennifer Reese
Hi Jennifer -
do you mean donations of books for your Library book drive, or titles of great books to read?
Linda
Linda,
I was referring to the book drive! And thank YOU, Charles Wickins, Lin Klaassen, and Mary Garmo for donating!

Be true to yourself
Linda,
I agree with Henry and Elizabeth---this is too much fun, and it will never go away---so, here's a couple more...
Seed; Sprouting; Leafing; Blooming; Fruiting; Drop Seed
OR...
Conception; Birth; Life; Re-birth; Death; "Real" Life!

Mark: I'm loving the energy everyone is putting into this! And how perfect your post is for what has become a "sustainable" thread here on MCC! I will be starting a new challenge on Monday - I hope it is as popular as this one!
I just have to chime in. This one is in honor of my parents, who celebrated their 55th wedding anniversary last Wednesday.
Married 55 years. Still his bride.
(And she is!)
Congrats to them, Natalie! And congrats to you - this is a great 6-word story.
