Call for speakers - New meeting locations suggestions

Remember a couple of years ago when MCC put on the 3rd Birthday Bash and we had 36 exhibitors and 30 speakers? Yeah, we are thinking about doing that again. You can skip the rant and hit the other highlighted sections below.

A Quick Rant

Can I be honest with you? I simultaneously find this group a source of inspiration and frustration. As such the energy I put toward it is very sporadic. I would love to do more with it and give more to you all, but I have zero idea how many people even read these messages, let alone visit the group. I know for a fact how many people attend the meetings, and while the right people always show up 30 people out of almost 6,000 isn’t that impressive.

  • I know our LinkedIn Group is huge (over 7,500)

  • I know our Twitter following is impressive (over 7900)

  • But our Facebook Group, although very active is low in #’s (only 1200) and I get that. Groups are so yesterday on Facebook.

  • But why is our Facebook Page so low? We have 151 likes and had over 100 on the first day?

Crazy, right? Want to be a part of those networks, then click on the links above.

I ask some variation of the same question in every message…what can WE do for YOU? Why do I ask? Because if you don’t tell us how to help, we can’t help you! Join us here or any of the places you may already be above and let us know what we can do for you.

Call for speakers

While a date has yet to be set (we will have one soon) we are planning another big mosh. Should we include an exhibit? Would YOU like to speak or can you recommend someone? We are interested in topics that positively shape people, their businesses or our community. Sound like any group you know? This e-mail blast is setup as a post under Motor City Connect Experts Speak. Feel free to respond to this post here or hit the site and write in your submissions on the discussion board.

New meeting locations

We are looking to add two more meetings by January. The big debate is WHERE? We will always have Royal Oak. We are considering moving the meeting in Commerce to Novi or Livonia (do you have a preference?) We are also looking at a meeting in Troy, Sterling Heights, Downtown Detroit, Southfield or some other place to be named. What do you think? Where would you like there to be a MCC meeting? Again, please write in on the board or reply to the e-mail.

MCC Live - save the dates

  • MCC Live West Side- Nov 13, 11:30-1:00 Uptown Grill in Commerce. Have an idea on a topic?

  • MCC Live Royal Oak- November 27 11:30-1:00 We will discuss the power of gratitude as it pertains to filling your life with all that you seek.

As always, do let us know how we may be of service to you.

Consider yourselves connected-

Terry:  Just my two cents--would love to see a Novi and/or Southfield lunch location--also is there any demand for an evening meeting? I would love to participate but the current lunch meeting locations are difficult for me to make.

Keep up the great work!

I would LOVE to speak at your 2013 event.  I always have a LOT to say.;)

The reason I stopped going is the people who showed up were not consistent.  You really can't recommend someone you don't KNOW.  You KNOW it's about relationships.  I'd go and see half (at best) there from the last meeting and so on.  I'd rather have 15 people show up consistently than 50 who are there once every quarter.  It may be different in RO, but Novi was that way.

Hi Terry,

I love what you are doing, my chanllenge has always been timing.   I wish I knew the magic answer to how to get people to engage in groups or attend networking events.

I would like to be considered as a speaker.

With Grace and Charm,

Walethia

The timing is also bad for me, lunch is not a good time. What type of speakers are you looking for?

Jenn

Check out the Mad Hatter Pub inside Wonderland Lanes. It is convenient - on Richardson Rd between M-5 and Haggerty Rd. www.facebook.com/madhatterpub www.wonderlandlanes We offer a full menu, MI craft beers, and plenty of meeting space. We are set for powerpoint presentations, a great sound system, and an attentive staff waiting to make your meeting, luncheon, or afterwork event a success. Give us a chance.

Hello Terry- you and the entire Motorcityconnect family are wonderful- love Charlie and his Twitter talks. I believe Novi area would be a great location- easy to reach.

A few months ago I attended a small chamber event, the speaker was Tim Green, Referral Institute, (810.715.2773)might want to check him out- he is  inspirational and easy to listen to.

Thanks again for all your efforts and patience.

Janina

I read your emails every week.  Do not be discouraged!

As for meeting places changing them gives others a chance to come and experience a new menu.  Speaking of menu, letting every one chose from different price groups would be good.  They could indicate their preference when they sign up for the meeting.

Speakers could be from within the group as well as out.  If needed, a fee could be charged for exceptional speakers to come.

My husband and I haven't attended a group since the Ann Arbor group was dropped, because lunch meetings at the distance from us they are just aren't feasible.  Livonia would be better for us than Novi.

I am about to release my book Behind the Old Face: Aging in America and the Coming Elder Boom, which is pertinent to everyone since we all are aging, and we all will be affected by the growth in the aging population.

I would like to speak about how caregiving affects business and what we can do to minimize the impending crisis as 70 million Baby Boomers have begun entering retirement at 10,000 a day and will continue to do so for the next 17 years.  Currently the loss to businesses from family caregiving commitments is estimated at 33 billion a year from 11-16 million employed caregivers in the US.  Approximately 14% of the US population is currently 65 years and older.  By 2030 nearly 20% of the population will be in their senior years.  If you think the aging future doesn't apply to you, think again.  Whether you're 25 or 45 the cost will affect you if it hasn't already.

We not only need to grow business in the US, we need to prevent the loss of business.  33 billion is already an astronomical loss, and will only continue to grow unless we act to minimize the impending impact of aging Baby Boomers.

Its time to quit ignoring or being in denial about what our aging future holds.  I see 2 choices, act now and be glad you did, or don't act and you'll find yourself wishing you had.

I'd be happy to speak on this topic for your MCC event Terry, or if anyone is interested in hearing more about this subject or a possible speaking engagement for your business or group, please email me at Angil@behindtheoldface.com

I would love to see a lunch meeting in Downtown Detroit.

Linda

Terry,

Southfield would be great, somewhere in Mid-town Detroit,

I always have the intention to make a networking breakfast. Let that be that.

If you are looking for speakers, I'd love to throw my name in the ring. I can speak on anything related to treating your customers like people, whether it be lead generation systems, social media marketing or optimizing customer retention systems.

Livonia would be good for west side meeting. Somewhere along the 275 Corridor. Would also like to have a monthly lunch downrtown Detroit

Yes Terry, we DO read the posts  . . I think the group is fabulous.  I'm from Detroit and in support of
anything connect Michigan business professionals.  Looking forward to
helping to launch "Queen City Connect" here in Charlotte.

Also, and observation: interesting comment from Kim Kasner re: not going because other people weren't showing up consistently.  Just my two cents, but sounds like you've become one of the people who aren't showing up . .  How does that resolve the challenge?

Terry - love this site and your posts and always read them.  I work at Wayne State and would attend a meeting downtown.  Detroit has a lot to offer (except parking).  If anyone knows of a place that would be easy and convenient so people would participate I think we should support Detroit.

I think a Livonia meeting would do well
