What can I say, I love this group.

Every week, I meet new, interesting people that enrich my life and help grow my business. Motor City Connect was designed to help you network online, offline and in the community. How’s MCC working for you? Drop me a line (charlie@curvedetroit.com). I’d love to hear. We’re always looking for new ways to improve, add value and bring people together.

If you haven’t visited our message boards yet, you’re missing a lot of good conversations. Next time your surfing out to your favorite news site, take a U-turn over to the MCC discussion boards

This week’s Monday Mid-Afternoon Memo highlights some of the great ways our members are giving back in the community.

MCC Cares

MCC has become synonymous with giving.  As such, we would like to highlight a couple of opportunities for members to give back (and one where a give leads to a get).

Dana Cadman and his wife Julie started a foundation to provide grants to offset the costs of connecting international adoptees with families here who would love to have them.  The Cadman’s are hosting their first fundraising dinner on May 2.  Details can be found here: cadmanfoundation.org.

Brooke Dukes hosting an interesting seminar with Michael Wickett & Jay Morton on May 8th. A portion of the proceeds will benefit Boys and Girls Club of Southeastern Michigan. Call Brooke at 248-762-6101 to reserve your seat.

Pam Ogg is putting on Great Strides for Cystic Fibrosis on Friday, May 9. The walk takes place on Detroit’s beautiful RiverWalk.  It’s a great way to burn a few calories for a great cause and witness how our downtown is being revitalized. It sure would be nice to see a MCC team for the event.

Dave Glenn will be Smiling with Style on May 17th to benefit families in need of financial support during a medical crisis. Attending or volunteering should be both personally and professionally rewarding. Join the cause by contacting Dave at 248-519-4000×132

Ellen Mahoney is working with Boys Hope Girls Hope, an awesome charity here in Detroit that helps young kids with promise get a good start – especially if they have a tough home life.  Get your ticket now for their upcoming raffle: $100.00 could win you $50,000.  That would make a heck of a donation!  The drawing will be May 20. For details, contact Ellen, (248) 642-2300.

Rachel Williams is a big part of “Lit from Within”, an evening of inspiration with Molly Barker, Founder and Vision-Keeper of Girls on the Run International.  The inspirational evening will feature food, drinks, music and a silent auction on May 20th.

On May 31, MCC members will gather to support BlightBusters.  We will gather to help beautify a small area of Detroit.  This is a wonderful opportunity to network while truly making a difference. More details to come in the next couple weeks.

Standing Room Only

If it’s Tuesday, it’s time for MCC Live. This week, we’re in Royal Oak at BD Mongolian Grill. We’ll be cooking up stir-fry and trading referrals. Join MCC as we come together to celebrate successes, solve challenges and connect with new people on a deeper level.  Get there early, we always run out of seats at the Royal Oak meetings.

BD’s Mongolian Grill is located in downtown Royal Oak on Main Street between 4th Street and 5th Street. Lunch costs $20.00 ($13 for lunch and tip, $7 for MCC) Cash is preferred – it’s hard to run 50 credit cards!

Someone You Should Meet

With 635 members, it’s tough to know everyone in MCC.  So every week, we introduce you to a MCC members you should get to know better. This week, we interview The Write Concept’s Linda Angér in our Someone you should meet forum.
