Conversation Week '08
This coming week, March 24 - 30th, marks Conversation Week 2008 (www.conversationweek.org). I'm guessing that many of you - like me just 2 weeks ago - had never heard of this celebration of conversation! During this week, people on every continent will be gathering in coffee shops, libraries, and homes to talk about real issues that impact us all. To set a stage for the conversations, people from 39 countries voted on the world's top 10 questions; here are the results:
1. How can we best prepare our children for the future?
2. What does sustainability look like to you? How do we get there?
3. How do humans need to adapt to survive the changes predicted for this century?
4. How do we shift from "Me" to "We" on both the local and global levels?
5. How can you, as Gandhi said, be the change that you want to see in the world?
6. What kind of economic structures can best support a shift to sustainable living?
7. How should we re-invent the political process so that people feel that they have a voice?
8. What kind of leadership does the world need now?
9. How can we balance our personal needs with the most pressing needs of our community and the larger world?
10. What can we do to reduce or eliminate violence in the world?
I'm curious to hear your thoughts on any one of these questions. And if you're interested in having a conversation, I've set aside 5 - 6 PM each night this coming week just for that purpose. Call or email me and let's meet up at a local spot - the first coffee is on me!
