NEED SR COST ESTIMATOR
Sr. Cost Estimator
½ purchasing type, ½ finance-cost type
Location: Auburn Hills, MI
Department: Cost Estimation
Reports to: Cost Estimation Manager
Pay: $75-80K
Position Summary
Support the Interior Systems business goals with accurate and credible cost estimates for products and investments to achieve profitable customer orders. Ensure that cost estimations are completed in a timely manner to support the customer deliverables.
Responsibilities
- Calculate all available and new technologies (parts investments & tooling) in the company utilizing the Interior Systems cost estimation system.
- Work with all appropriate internal departments to define the best technology and quality to meet objectives while minimizing costs.
- This includes:
- Gathering all engineering information for quote.
- Providing Purchasing with all needed information to quote suppliers.
- Establishing pricing targets with Purchasing.
- Supporting in supplier quote evaluation.
- Supporting the development of business cases with the program controller and the program manager.
- Working with manufacturing and finance to complete the business case.
- Handle the estimation of transportation.
- Ensure cost estimation calculation processes are compatible with Interior Systems European process & updated to market requirements on an on-going basis.
- Participate in VA/ VE procedures.
- Continually improve understanding & knowledge of new developments in manufacturing.
- The employee is responsible for conducting his/her job within the ISO 9001 standards.
- All program-related duties need to be accomplished within the requirements of the Program Management System.
Position Specification
Knowledge / Skills:
Knowledge of Microsoft Office, particularly Excel, is required.
Knowledge of basic manufacturing process such as injection molding, covering and assembling with regards to labor costs, machine costs and time of process is highly recommended.
Knowledge of economics is required.
The ability to read engineering prints is required.
A strong math background is necessary in order to understand cost development.
A high level of accuracy is necessary to accomplish the position's requirements.
The ability to communicate decisions with credibility and confidence, defending them and acquiring support is a highly desired skill.
As this position deals with all FIS departments, the ability to interact effectively with all hierarchic levels is necessary.
The performance needs to be in accordance with the core competencies.
Education / Experience:
Bachelor's degree in business, finance or a related engineering discipline preferred and/or 4 - 6 years of cost estimation experience in the automotive industry
