Where have all the leaders gone?
I just sent this blast:
Before I share my thoughts on Leadership as an art that we must all master, I want to share two things with you:
Check out this post from Charlie Wollborg that sums up nicely how the rest of the world sees our DETROIT.
Take a look at this post from Joshua Norber about helping the Friendship Circle win the $1 Million give away from Chase Bank. The Friendship Circle is currently in the top 10 out of 1000's of organizations who entered and they are the only remaining SE Michigan charity who could win. Let's help this wonderful organization WIN!
I understand leadership is an art. I know it takes time, energy and dedication. It also takes a firm commitment and a belief in something bigger than the person leading. A lot of times one needs to be appointed or elected to lead. Put simply, it takes a lot to be a leader. Or does it?
Are you familiar with the concept of "leading from where you are"? We all have unique talents and skills that make us slightly different from the people sitting closest to us. We also have unique life experiences that help us look at things from our own perspective. Are we doing our best job of sharing these skills and perspectives with others? I would argue that some of us are.
But that is not good enough. We all need to step up. Everyday Leadership only has one requirement...YOU. We need each other now more than ever to stand tall for our beliefs, to share them with others and most importantly to be supportive of those who follow.
If you believe that our Detroit will rise again, become part of the change that we all wish to see. Take action. That action can be as simple as sharing your ASK here on MCC or helping others who shared theirs find what they seek. Conversely that action can be for you to fully immerse yourself. Choose a cause and stand tall for it. Let people know what you're about. The greatest gift you can give yourself is enrolling others to stand with you for something you believe in.
What will you do now? Whatever it is, make it worthy of you and those who will follow.
Please do vote for the Friendship Circle. To make it really easy, I have included the link to their site HERE.

Excellent article, Terry - congratulations!
Since the economic downturn started here in Detroit, I have been saying that the way out will not and cannot come from large corporations or from government, but from small businesses (that's us, guys... Where the creativity and vision for the future is housed these days is in OUR arena. By lifting ourselves and each other up, we will create the future. By leading from where we are, something very new will arise.
If you were IT - if you were THE solution, what would you be doing? What would you be generating? Where and how would you be reaching out? What would be different about and around you? Well, tag - we're IT!
What are you waiting for? (If it's permission, I hereby grant you all the permission you will ever need.) Now, there's lots to be done! Let's get to work!
Excellent statement, Natalie!
If I were "IT" - I'd be doing exactly what I am doing - making sure that as much of every dollar I spend goes to a Michigan-based company, and particularly small businesses likes ours.
Keeping my thoughts and words positive, and focused on a bright future.
Helping everyone I can discover and advance their own greatness ....
And speaking WORDS that MATTER -
Make your day Magnificent!
Linda
