Why You Should Know – and Hire – John Zadikian

With so many people out of work, employers are flooded with prospective candidates to fill what few positions there are these days. After 11 years at a large insurance and travel firm, I recently became a victim of the current economic climate. So why should you hire me instead of someone else? Here are several reasons, in no particular order:

My experience is varied and lengthy. I have been in the communications business for more than 20 years as a reporter, writer, voice talent and mentor, working on the air and with website operations. Other positions have allowed me to negotiate employee contracts, run municipal programs and oversee budgets.

I am not just an employee, I am a consumer. I look for quality when I spend my hard-earned dollars just like everyone else. When I work for a company, I am a representative of that company in the minds of others. I not only work hard to make people want to do business with me, but I look for that quality in others.

Exceptional customer service. I am a disciple of the customer service model. If you call or e-mail me with a question, I work diligently to get you an answer in an expeditious manner. My communications skills have been chronicled in annual performance reviews and received high marks in focus groups.

My job is my lifeline. Think about it…I depend on your paycheck to take care of my bills and provide myself with a decent quality of life. Why would I mess that up? If I don’t work and provide solutions to society’s challenges, then I become society’s problem, and that just doesn’t work for me.

I am transparent. If, after reading my public profile/bio, you have a question about something, ask me. I’ll be happy to detail a part of my career you need to know more about. Heck, I’ll even tell you a few of my top-secret grilling tips!

Am I perfect? No. Am I a hard worker who enjoys making an honest day’s wage for an honest day’s work, and have a little fun doing it? Absolutely. Go ahead…drop me a line. Keep me employed and I’ll help keep you in business.

Nice headline John. You got me to read it. Now, really make it work for you and tell us what the ideal position would be. Stretch. Give us your dreams. You mentioned you want to be hired, and you told us what you have done, but do you want to do (hint- get a job is not an acceptable answer).

Get specific.

What kind of company?

How big, where are they located? is there a specific industry? Are they public, private or family owned?

Compensation:

Are you straight commission, looking for a salary plus bonus...how much total income? What about benefits...Be clear and BE specific.

Job duties-

Very important...tell us what you want to do. What would have you kick the sheets off and jump out of bed every morning. This is not a time to sell your soul this is a time to describe EXACTLY what you want.

Good hunting!

John,

What a great piece!  Very authentic, raw and honest.  I love it!  I would hire you.  Although I agree with Terry...what is it you want to do?

Great job!  I may steal your format (not content) for my own job search.  As they say, "Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery."

Best of luck in your search!

Excellent questions, Terry and Bridget (you flatterer, you, lol!)

I have many years of what I like to call "customer service" experience. Assisting constituents at city hall or providing much-needed information over the phone to the traveling public makes me a problem solver, or answer man, if you will.

Ideally, a Detroit-area public/media relations position with a travel/tourism, insurance, financial, communications or governmental agency would be the next logical step in my career. I envision a role in which I can utilize my strong writing and speaking skills to improve an organization's standing with its customer base and community. Travel Michigan, the Detroit Symphony Orchestra, WDIV-TV, the Red Cross or a chamber of commerce are types of target employers.

Offers with a minimum starting salary of $40,000 plus benefits (medical, 401k and vacation) would be in line to maintain my current quality of life. Eligibility for performance bonuses and promotions, a fun/creative work environment and a nurturing management structure are pluses.

If you or anyone else have any other questions, please feel free to drop me a line.

Nicely written, John.  And sounds like a lot of fun!  I don't know of anything at this moment; however, I'll keep my eyes and ears open and let you know if I come across anything that may be of interest to you.

Best of luck in your search!

Bridget

Thanks for your offer to help, Bridget...I appreciate it very much.

(Bump)

Still looking for a gig, folks.  Anyone in need of a PR/media guy with 20+ years of experience?
