Can you believe how close we are to August? Umm, Summer…where are you going?

Starting next Monday, things will be back to normal in MCC Land. Did I just hear a 3742 person sigh of relief? Believe me, I understand. I too am looking forward to getting “back to business”. This community development thing is needed, but can be tiresome.

I will tell you it hasn’t gone unnoticed. In fact, I got to watch Renee Howarth receive an award today. It was a very special moment in time. She received the “President’s Volunteer Service Award” for her efforts with Blood, Sweat and Gear. She got herself a fancy hand signed letter from the President himself. Please take a moment to congratulate her. That is really, really COOL. Kudos to Lisa Diggs, founder of Buy Michigan Now for receiving one as well. Thanks to Menachem Kniespeck of Operation Kid Equip for bestowing this wonderful honor on us.

Speakers and Locations-

I know I have made this request before, but it seems as though it has gotten lost in the shuffle. Starting in September (and hopefully sooner) we want to begin hosting the majority of our meetings in the a.m. or late afternoon at member’s offices. On the off chance you don’t have an office and still want to host a meeting, pick a place and let us know. We would like to stay in the same geographies we are in currently, but move away from the restaurant thing (for the most part). When we do this, we will lower the cost per meeting significantly.

We are also looking for speakers. So far Kimberly Kassner and I have shared some of our expertise at meetings. Both have been well received. If you are a speaker and have significant expertise that others should know about, let us know. We would love to have you on the bill.

Simply reply to this discussion and let us know if you want to host (include the location) or speak. We would love to hear from you.

The Blood

The first day of Blood, Sweat & Gear is in the books! We had a pretty good showing in Northville and gathered over 25 pints of blood…that saves 75 lives. WAY TO GO MCC!!! Thanks to all of those who bled and those who came out and tried. You are all appreciated! Just because you didn’t make it to Northville, please go to a Red Cross location near you (www.givelife.org to find one) and use the code MotorCC

The Sweat

So you know, we will be working rain or shine on Wednesday, Friday and Saturday of this week. As a special bonus, this Saturday, Daniel Ottney will be doing his Teleprospecting class again. Click HERE to read what people are saying about the last one. Way to go Daniel!!

The Gear

We are off to a great start on raising GEAR for Operation Kid Equip too. I am looking forward to the results.

The After Party

Next Monday, August 3rd, we are hosting a happy hour at Meriweathers in Southfield to celebrate our efforts in Blood, Sweat & Gear. If you gave BLOOD, SWEATed, ponied up some GEAR or volunteered at the booth at Buy Michigan Week, you are invited as our guest. If you didn’t do any of the above, but would like to come we ask for a simple donation of $20 that will go to the causes we are supporting. This will be a great time to connect and celebrate!

Twitter Class-

All the cool kids are doing it, but the ones who are doing it right are seeing significant results. If you don’t know what RT, DM or the @ symbol means, you NEED to be there. If you know those things but want to know how to follow the right people and more importantly have the right people follow you, it would be wise to join us today at 2:30 at Automation Alley. Details HERE

As always, do let us know what we can do for you.

Be Connected-

A friend and fellow MCC member just took the plunge to start a business that would be a good venue in Southfield: an office building deli/cafe, Cafe Tropical at 696 and Evergreen, 248-208-0013.  It could comfortably accomodate any number up to 75 people, no special fee to use, and participants who want to partake of refreshments could do so.

Are there particular topics or dates you're looking at?  I do a lot of public speaking on topics relating to business development, communications, leadership, etc.  Also have you spoken to Terry or Charlie about hosting MCC meetings?  That would be a good way to promote the cafe.  I'd be happy to speak with you further about it.  You can reach me at (810) 560-7181.

I am a National Expert in Eldercare and can speak on many subjects but the 2 that would be most pertinent to MCC members would be;

1) "The affects of family caregiving on business" Approximately 50 million people are providing care to a loved one. A huge majority of these family caregivers are also in the workforce. The impact is very costly to businesses, from absinteeism, to lost productivity, to replacing employees who have had to leave the workforce to provide care to a loved one. There are answers to reduce the losses, and prepare for the even bigger crisis as Baby Boomers age.

2) "Preparing to care for a spouse or parent" Most of us will provide some type of care for a spouse or parent, if we're not already. Most will find themselves immediately thrown into that role following an unexpected illness, injury, or diagnosis, and are unprepared for the
decisions that need to be made. Stress is significantly higher in those who are unprepared compared to those who have educated themselves prior to the crisis. Family members who are unprepared lose income, and take a lot of time off work gathering information and resources in a very short time as decisions need to be made. Just a little bit of knowledge goes a long way in preparing to care for a loved one.

I am able to speak on those subjects or any others related to issues facing aging adults, including Alzheimer's and other dementia's.
