Job Title: Packaging Engineer
Location: Romulus
Pay Rate: $27-$33/hr
Job Type: Contract 3 months plus

GENERAL NATURE and SCOPE
Under the direction of the site Engineering Manager, this position is a key technical position that designs product and manufacturing packaging to ensure product integrity and appeal under varying manufacturing, shipping and display conditions. The individual in this position tests, analyzes and selects materials for packaging based on durability and cost effectiveness. The Packaging Engineer makes recommendations to Engineering, Marketing, Sales and development departments on new or different fabrication materials to enhance package quality or availability as lower costs. The incumbent must have knowledge of commonly used manufacturing concepts, practices, and procedures within a batch manufacturing process. Relies on instructions and pre-established guidelines to perform the functions of the job.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
• Interacting with suppliers
o Responsible for coordinating improvements in supplier packaging with suppliers.
o Suppliers to determine future product packaging specifications.
• Working with our purchasing group for any new or updated packaging specifications
• Writing and/or revising packaging specs
• Responsible for coordination of the packaging information for material logistics
• If goods arrive that are out of specification, going through the Root Cause, Counter Measure process to determine why and develop corrective action
o Responsible for coordination of the packaging information for material logistics.
o Responsible for regularly meeting with the plant Logistics Managers, Commodity Sourcing Specialists, and

Other duties may be assigned, in addition to those identified.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
• Must have an undergraduate degree in Packaging Engineering.
• 3 years exp. in a batch packaging environment. 2 years exp. in a supplier relationship role.
• Must be excellent with Microsoft Office including Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook and Word. Must also be proficient with graphics software such as Visio or Adobe and with project planning software such as Microsoft Project.
• DBS training or experience.
• >5 years working in a high volume/moderate mix lean manufacturing setting.
• Production assembly experience.
