Kind Gesture for the Unemployed...

Was really touched by this today so I thought I would pass it on. Martinizing on Harper Avenue & 11 Mile Rd. here in St. Clair Shores has a simple painted sign in their window offering anyone who is unempolyed and going on interviews, the opportunity to bring in a suit to have it cleaned and pressed for FREE!
I told my 17 YO that that simple window sign was truly a "sign of the times" to me.
Thanks to either the Martinizing corporation or just the owner of that specific location for having a HEART during these difficult times.
God bless 'em!

Thank you, Jennifer, for sharing this - it is good to know there are people who still have a heart.
I'd love to know where to find physicians who will treat the unemployed / uninsured at reduced rates (or accept payment plans). Most won't, because Blue Cross holds them hostage.
That is a great story and a fine example for all of us. Thanks for sharing, Jennifer. We're all in this together and need to help each other in whatever way we can.
That is indeed a great gesture. Another is the "Take Charge Workshops - free for MI unemployed" at Walsh College. It is sponsored by Ford Motor Company - who is not shutting down dealerships and going into bankruptcy.
Linda,
I have found a reduced cost for access to a physician 24x7x365. Especially in these times with people cannot afford to stay on cobra.

I was paying $465/month for COBRA. When that expired I got a BC/BS individual policy for $260/month. It has a whopping $2,500 deductible, but at least I'm protected if I get hit by a bus. This is the type of policy that's been in the news lately (BC wants to up the policy $$)
Lisa, please share what you found. Even the $260/month Michael mentioned is more than some of can afford at this time.
maybe my son could help you save some money on your insurance.
Very honest and upfront, call him for quote. 586-2919381 is cell. # have saved

Thanks Sharon Blevins. his name is Shaun Blevins
n Shaun can help save with health insurance Call 586-291-9381 for truth and honest opinion. Thanks his mom Sharon Blevins
What I have found is a benefit not insurance. For $49.95 a month a family up to 10 people can have access to a doctor 24X7X365 for any questions or concerns they may have. Along with this benefit is prescription coverage. What I have found is there is up to an 80% savings on prescriptions.
So if you are feeling ill and want to call a doctor and ask for advise you can, then if you need a prescription they can call one in for you to your local pharmacy. You are now saving your co-pay for a simple visit and you do not have to wait to see your doctor if it is the weekend.
This does not replace insurance, but can help families save on costs.

what if you would need to go to hospital with no insurance, then what Sharon
Sharon,
Hospitals cannot refuse emergency treatment to individuals because they do not have insurance. I have recently experienced this, when my best friends Daughter was killed in a car accident on 23 mile road May 18th. They had no insurance because her Dad had been out of work for over a year. But, they now have several medical bills, that will most likely force them into bankruptcy along with funeral expenses. Of the 2 boys who were also in the car, 1 did not have great insurance. He was treated for the medical emergency and released early, because of his insurance was not adequate to stay in the hospital longer.
Because the unemployment rate is becoming so high, especially in Michigan, President Obama is looking at ways to help the uninsured. Because hospitals cannot refuse you many of the cases they see in the emergency room are not emergencies, thus leaving real emergencies not getting the proper attention, due to non emergencies. Did you know that Hospitals write off millions of dollars in unpaid bills every month, because people do not have insurance or a way to pay the bills. The number one reason people file bankruptcy is due to a medical conditions they cannot afford.
I am sure your Son has very cost effective programs, but many people do not know who to turn too. It is wonderful you have posted his information. This is the reason Motor City Connect is great at connecting people and helping everyone find solutions.
My solution with Teladoc is a benefit that compliments insurance. It allows people to call and speak to a doctor when they cannot reach their own or just have questions. when a person calls Teladoc and the Doctor feel the condition is very serious they will be sent to the nearest hospital.
