I have known people that have won great awards but no one ever knew anything about them. Is there a way to get newspapers or tv stations to take notice?

I am not a PR expert, but have seen individuals & companies highlighted in Crain's for free. You might want to look into that. You can also develop an e-newsletter that you send to prospects & clients highlighting your achievments.
Good luck,

Nowadays bringing light to those awards, promotions, etc online in every facet of your social media presence is the best way to go professionaly - Once you do that the eyes are on it from (as Marcus Barnes mentioned) sources like Crain's Detroit Business and others around town or even nationally.
Thanks for your ideas. I was awarded Innovator of the Year by NWABO of Greater Detroit for a new unique bakery product and I just was not sure how to get the word out. I have been getting some exposure in local magazines and papers. My goal with Bizzy Lizzy Bakery and the Flourless Cookie Revolution is to make people aware that you do not need flour to make great bakery items. I keep working on the my product line with this in mind. So far cookies, cakes and quick breads but my goal is bread.
Thanks again.
Congratulations Sheila...all the best on publicizing your award!
Thanks. Women's Lifestyle Magazine in Lansing has picked it up. Getting the word out on new product's is a lot of work for small businesses. It is nice to have people who find the product and love it to talk about it. The simpliest concept of word of mouth has actually been our best way of letting people know.
