GET TO WORK.... SHOP

My team is currently putting together a series to help unemployed, underemployed, soon-to-be-unemployed, people who want to be hard working folks; we call this our "GET TO WORK...shop."

In this series, which is still under development, but being rolled out in April, we plan to work with attendees to:
- commiserate
- share resume information and techniques
- critique and re-write resumes, as needed
- review on line networking and job boards / analyze most effective
- network with those who attend to find jobs for each other
- share ideas and things that work, and don't work
- give some direction from what we've all found
- miscellaneous items that anyone wants to discuss or ask

- several other topics are in development for rollout in the next two weeks

We see this session as being designed for a group of folks that are unemployed, potentially unemployed, under-employed, or people just searching for a new opportunity. Maybe spouses would even want to attend to support their job searcher.

We are offering this for free to some individual church groups, etc., and for a fee to employers, who may want to give those people they're laying off a chance to kickstart their search for the next opportunity. This may be a one-time meeting, or turn into a series, depending upon the needs of those attending.

If you would like to learn more about what we will offer, and/or to see if it will fit for your company, or your individual group, or if you'd like to join a group doing this program, please contact me.   cmac@midwestleasing.com or 734/775-2500 (cell)...

We had our first meeting last evening, a free get-together for a church-related group of 15 people. We will meet again next week.

This meeting was a working session to get organized and to determine the needs of the folks who attended. It went very well, and will become regularly scheduled so that the attendees can network, and learn how to be more efficient and effective in their job searches.

It was gratifying to see the connection the people made with one another, and it was rewarding to offer some comfort and assurance to people facing uneasy times.

This will be developed soon for corporations who may want to provide their laid off employees with a vehicle to jump start their search for the next career position.

The roll out for corporate clients will be complete in April/09.

Our next meeting is scheduled Wednesday, April 8, from 6-8 pm, where we will work on www.LINKEDIN.com, we will review several job boards, and we will have some resume-prep discussion.  then, we will carve out some time for open dialogue to network, and to determine what the career goals are for each of us moving forward.

If you'd like to hear more, contact Curt MacRae. at cmac@midwestleasing.com.

Our 4/8 meeting showed people how to utilize job boards and network groups to facilitate their career searches. We also showed a No-Worker-Left-Behind insurance savings for participants, we showed some self assessment tools, and discussed goals. Networking in the group has produced some job opportunities.

These are free sessions for this group, and we will do some other free sessions for church groups, but we are rolling out a fee program for corporations and municipalities that want to do the right thing for their laid of employees or constituents.

NEXT MEETING IS 4/30/09; free meeting for career searching folks --  we're meeting in Livonia (email for details) at 6:30 pm, and this meeting will be to disuss interviewing techniques and to elaborate on the psychology of job loss.

If you'd like to attend, simply drop my a note and I'll give you the details and make another handout.
