Restaurant Suggestion for Small Party

I am looking for some Restaurant suggestions for a family gathering in the Metro Detroit area.
We are seeing a matinee at Fisher Theatre and then would like to go out to eat. We are looking for a restaurant in downtown or along 94/75/696 area up to 16 mile.
It would be for a party of 9 (mostly adults) who get together once a year. It would be nice to find a restaurant with a quiet nook or good spacing between tables. Plate cost of approximately $20/person.
Any recommendations?

I HIGHLY recommend the Traffic Jam and Snug (otherwise known as TJ's). Only 5 minutes from the Fisher on Second and Canfield, they have private areas and entrees in the $12-$22 range. No loud music either so it's great for conversation after the show!
Assaggi's in Ferndale is one of our favorites Assaggi Bistro - Fendale , Slow's near the old Tiger Stadium Slows Bar BQ | Home , Magestic Cafe in Midtown The Majestic Theater Center: Cafe , La Dolce Vita at 6 Mile & Woodward http://ldvrestaurant.com
Let me know if you'd like more suggestions!
Right next door to TJ (Traffic Jam) is Marios...Great Place. Another (if they will take reservations) is Roma Cafe in Eastern Market. It's the oldest restaurant in the city and ALWAYS good.
If you want a private room Ginopolis on the Hill @ 12 Mile & Middlebelt is good.
I would suggest Picano's on Rochester Road just north of 16 mile. Great italian food and atmosphere. I have had numerous dinner parties there in the past and the food / service is outstanding. They really know how to take care of a group.
I heartily second everything you said. I've only been there once (for my daughter's birthday), but the service, food, and atmosphere was wonderful!

Thanks everyone. I will check them out.
If you want to try a lot of foods in one shot for a few hours you could try a food tour. There is a great one my wife took me on last week in downtown Royal Oak. We visited at least 8 small restaurants, a tea house, and a bakery. It was a guided tour so we learned a lot of little things about the food, city and restaurants history. We had these little listening devices so we could listen to the tour guide or hang back and chat with our friends when we wanted. We were stuffed for our $35 and caught up with each other. We even had food to take home. Their website says they give private tours and group discounts. Very professional. The website is www.culinary-escapes.com
