My goal is simple: Make Detroit one of the most connected cities on the planet. I want to see Detroit on the top 20 list for Linkedin, Facebook and Twitter users -- today we're not in the top 50.
We need more ideas! How you suggest with get more folks on Linkedin, Motor City Connect, Facebook and Twitter? Who can you bring online? Co-workers, family, friends?
Let's get connected, Detroit!

Action step: Stop by a friends house with a six pack/layer cake/slab of bacon and show them how to find their favorite stuff on Linkedin, Motor City Connect, Facebook and Twitter.
Action step: Next time you attend a Charlie / Terry social media event, bring a friend who isn't currently using social media.
Action step: Ask not what online networking can do for you, but what you can do for online networking!
Put Martha Reeves in charge?
One of the immediate things I've noticed since moving back to Detroit is the constant drum of "how bad MI/Detroit has become". Alright fine, yes I wouldn't be the 1st to agree things are rough, but we can do something about that.
How about a call to action for MI bloggers to shine a light on what is positive or what makes Detroit/MI great?
What about a blog carnival?
Or better yet, what about holding an event - blog it, video it, live tweeting, etc?
Something that spotlights the talent and drive that still runs through Detroit.
Action Idea:
At your next chamber or other live networking event, make Detroit's connectedness your cause.
Share your passion for MCC, Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter, etc. with 2 new people.
Get their commitment to get involved - right away.
Follow up and be ready to help if they need it.
Dave, I agree. There are good bloggers right in our backyard and we need to help them get noticed. My current fav is http://positivedetroit.blogspot.com/. There is good in this community and we need to honor it!
Charlie, can I do the same thing over a cup of Michigan Cherry coffee at Biggby's? That's my strategy for tomorrow!
One other thing I forgot to mention. BNI is starting their own social media site, creatively named BNI Connect. They are in beta right now, so my suggestion is to start talking to your BNI friends now about getting use to the technology now. It will help them be successful quickly when it launches here (hopefully by November).
Tell everyone Oprah has a how to use Facebook on her show today at 4:00.
If you can turn it on at work or call home and have someone DVR it.

Action step: Work with Detroit's many ethnic communities to engage them in social networking with the rest of Detroit. There are several ethnic websites in the Metro area that cater to specific ethnicities. Having them work together towards similar goals can help engage the communities as well.
What happens when we collide "corporate cube-land" with "Detroit blog jive" with "Detroit's Arts/Non-Profit Circles" with "MotorCityConnect"? Detroit's ultimate connectedness.
Action Step: Get the Fortune 500 corporate folks, who don't do the traditional networking or not as-versed with the online -- on Linked and on MotorCity Connect....and that they don't have to be business owners, consultants to do so, just TALENT! What campaign can be done within the big-dogs doors -- GM, Ford, Chrysler, Compuware, IBM, EDS, etc who are Metro-Detroits largest employers.
Action Step: Create an engine with MotorCityConnect which coordinate TALENT with Non-Profit Volunteer needs. Can we get a list of all the non-profits in Detroit, organized by major categories? Can we "Connect" Professional Talent with Civic Service? Can we make it EASY for Detroit Professional Talent to volunteer for 1-hour or 100-hours per month...with this engine?
Action Step: Connect with the Detroit Orientation Institute for how to leverage SM to expose the history, the current economic development and their panel guests (which are phenomenal contacts) on MotorCityConnect. Maybe DOI will do "mini-sessions".
Action Step: Get all the Chamber of Commerce's in the area on LinkedIn and MotorCityConnect. Have MotorCityConnect display chamber membership -- it's not a competition. If we collaborate, we create a bigger pie.
Action Step: Have the Detroit SCORE members in LinkedIN and MCC -- displaying the "Score" Emblem, with a link to their LinkedIN. Invite them to guest blog. They are here to mentor us to a new economy -- they want to be used!
Action Step: Create a game that "scores" someone's connected within Detroit. I joke and say that I am always within "2 degrees" of everyone in Metro Detroit. Shoot -- is this true? Who knows? But would't it be great if we could create an appl/game that would tell you how connected you are...and how connected the region is as-a-whole?
Okay -- I"ll take a break ;)
