Good Day! I'm a MCC 'newbie', as well as a 'newbie' to being laid off. I'm trying to find local networking clubs or meetings of folks in the same situation as me. Any suggestions or recommendations? Reply or email me at dbowser50@hotmail.com. Thanks in advance!
David

Hello David,
MCC is hosting a networking event next Wednesday. You should check out their calendar for date and time of events that are going on around town.
Let me know if I can help you with anything else. My email address is julie@tonerandbeyond.com
Good Luck,
Julie Chan
Have you joined Twitter? There is a lot of opportunities to network through Twitter with recruiters, make some contacts that way, and to meet live when they have a Tweet UP. Which is like a Meet Up with Twitter people. The last Tweet Up had over 80 people at it.
Try ShrineCareerNetwork as well. They do a lot of Careers in Transition, training, and community work that gives people updates on how to find a job, job leads, etc. It was really great. In the past 4 months I have been to 3 meetings but the ones in Rochester at the United Congregational Church has the best speakers at it. Dave Biskner from www.biznetis.net and M.C.C. member filled in for Terry Bean and Preston True spoke about Networking. I highly recommend this group if you are in transition.

Depending on your interests and the kind of job you are looking for. I found a Social Media Michigan group but I only went to one meeting. The trick is finding the low cost ones because money is tight but there is always a way to network.
Jamie,
What is the link for "ShrineCareerNetwork?" Is it this one -

There is now also a Shrine Career Network Group on LinkedIn.

I've done a fair bit of recent research on this topic and discovered the following:
Gray Hair Management
Motor City Connect
Sunrise Networking Group
Business Network International (BNI)
Local Business Network (LBN)
The last 2 are primarily for small business owners but they are not necessarily averse to networkers. In the event choose to become an entrepeneur of some type, they would be good ones to look at. You should also know that job search costs are deductible on your taxes, so if you spend money to join any of these, you may be able to defray the costs somewhat. Feel free to contact me if you'd like to chat about other ideas that have worked for me.
Thanks for all of the replies...I will give them all a try!! I'm on linked in, theladders, and now i'll look at twitter. If anyone else has more ideas...keep them coming! Thanks!! David
What type of position are you looking for? As we are all out there talking to people on a daily basis, we may run into someone who is looking for just what you have to offer.
Hello and thank you for your offer of help! I am a sales, sales management, new business development professional. My experience has been in technical sales (electrical/electromechanical assemblies and other related products) to various size companies. I also have alot of international experience in Japan(35+ times), China, Australia, Brazil, Mexico and Canada. I am looking for my next opportunity in sales, sales management and new business development. I am very strong on developing and maintaining relationships. I would consider an automotive related position but am looking to try to get into medical, energy conversion or another indsustry if possible.
I have uploaded my resume for your review.

Bruce,
I own a small business, started last year. I'm looking to expand my company, I can do it all by myself. I'm interested of talking to you about a sale position. I know is a small company, maybe you can help me right now until you find a job that you want. Maybe you don't want to go anywhere after you help me. I know is hard to find a job, because so many people are getting layoff. Why not work for yourself and be your own boss.
If you are interested, we can do one on one meeting. I go to a lot of networking event, I can give you more informatin when we meet.
I hope to hear from you soon.
Good Luck,
Julie Chan

If anyone are interested of helping me while you are looking for a job. I can do a one on one meeting with you. Please send me an email julie@tonerandbeyond.com
Please don't go to our website, is under construction right now. It should be up and running again in couple weeks.

Hi Bruce,
The first link was the maps of all the churches and stuff that they meet at.
Jamie
Thanks. I printed it out.
Bruce (and anyone in career transition),
MCC, Grey Hair, Career Ministries, Execunet, and other networking activities are excellent and must be a part of a job changing strategy. They are great places to make connections, find resources, and hone a 30 sec. pitch.
If you happen to live in or near the Rochester area, I've assembled a small group of energetic people. We meet at a local coffee shop Monday morning at 8:00am. We work on three things:
1) helping each other connect to specific people, companies, or resources (beyond a 30 sec pitch)
2) sharing ideas to drive career changing results
3) creating accountability (generally not available in a large group setting)
If you think this would help you, please call me.
