Extraordinary Business- Seven Steps To Thrive in a Down Economy
Seven Steps To Thrive in a Down Economy
This is the first in a series of seven articles that will outline what you should be doing as a business leader to THRIVE, not just survive in this economy. Most companies are merely hoping to "get by," but we have witnessed, through work with our clients, that when you follow and execute each of these steps you can choose to overcome the economy's challenges and have more success than ever before.
Step One... Work on Your Mindset
Every day thousands of messages pass through our mind as the "little voice" inside our head speaks to us. What is yours saying to you? Is it caught up in the negative headlines, convincing you at every turn that you're doomed for failure? Or is it remaining hopeful and positive, keeping a watchful eye out for all the possibilities that may exist right around the corner?
It is more important than ever before to pay attention to, and control, the voice in our heads. When we concentrate on blaming someone or something else for our situation or when we make excuses for lack of productivity, we become victims of our own beliefs and are paralyzed to take action. Even worse, a negative mindset, left unattended will continue to fester until it takes over, sometimes even making us physically ill.
The other option is to focus on a results-driven mindset; to take ownership for our futures and be responsible for small successes each and every day. By holding positive and optimistic thoughts we are much more likely to have the courage to look to the future, take action and execute our plans.
So, how do we foster a positive mindset? Here are some suggestions:
1. Work on the things you CAN control. You may not be able to control the economy, but there are things in your company that you can control.
2. Read a positive message everyday. There are plenty of websites that will email them or choose a great book and read a passage everyday.
3. Show gratitude. All of us can find at least a few things to be grateful for each and every day.
4. Divorce yourself from negative teammates. If you work with people that create a negative environment, it's crucial that you change it right away or get as far away as possible!
By working on your mindset first, you will be much more open to the next step in our series - Step Two: Re-evaluate Your Marketing (coming in two weeks!)
How do you stay positive in today's economy?
