U.S. News & World Report is out with their list of 50 Ways to Improve Your Life in 2009. They tackle everything from mind to body, from work to play.
A couple of my favorites include Make More Friends at Work, Walk Away Your Cravings, and Publish Your Book Yourself.
I think the collective wisdom of out membership outweighs the editors of USN&WR. Share you top tips for living the dream below.

Keep your eye on the sunny side of the street.
Give yourself "play" time.
Do one thing each day that scares you.
Of the 4 that I first thought of, two are already on the list (sort of):
1. Bike more/Drive less (which is close to Bike to Work) - I've already ridden my bike 4 of the 6 days of 2009 and today is still young!
2. Cook with more Ingredients - playing with more spices, more veggies, just more ingredients in general will make homemade food more interesting and more fun. Even if you don't think you can cook, next time you're making ragu spaghetti sauce, just toss in some fresh cut carrots and cut sausage and see how much it changes!
3. See more live music - get out to see more live music whether at free festivals, orchestra hall, at small venues, or even in your pal's basement.
4. Take and share more pictures - We have so many different options for sharing photos, quickly, yet most of the people I know take pictures that either never make it off the camera/phone or they only take pictures on special events and then upload them 3 months later (that's me). I love to see more through the eyes of others, even if some of it seems mundane, there's often something spectacular in the mundane (once you're taking more, try the "geotags")
Okay, one more for the professional life...
Go back to school - Even if its just an adult ed class to learn the basics of Spanish, cooking, or Flash programming, recessions are a GREAT time to build new skills or explore new areas - I'm taking this advice myself and taking some design courses

One of my favorites on the US News & World Report list is "Take an Afternoon Nap."
Did you know that Albert Einstein took a 20-minute nap every day?
And here is an enlightening quote from Winston Churchill, culled from an OSU article:
"You must sleep sometime between lunch and dinner, and no halfway
measures. Take off your clothes and get into bed. That's what I always
do. Don't think you will be doing less work because you sleep during
the day. That's a foolish notion held by people who have no
imaginations. You will be able to accomplish more. You get two days in
one -- well, at least one and a half."
Read the rest of the article here:

Then share the article with your boss, if you have one. If you're the boss, give your staff the gift of "nap time" and see what happens!
Sweet Dreams -
