A Holiday Perspective
Hi Peeps,
I just wanted to wish everybody a happy holiday season. I spent last night at my Brother's where we tore into presents and traded stories about our youth. This morning I returned home to at least one complete viewing of "A Christmas Story". That's the story about the kid who wants a Red Ryder BB Gun for Christmas. I can relate because I wanted one myself. I also listened to Little Orphan Annie on the radio, and although I was not a dumb kid, if you "triple dog dared" me I probably would have been the one found with my tounge stuck to the flagpole.
After settling in I picked up today's copy of the Oakland Press. I saw an article that dealt with the paper asking people to share what they want for Christmas. One group of third graders from Beaumont Elementary in Waterford sent in a slew of wishes. The thing that caught my attention was that not one of them asked for anything for themselves. Their wishes were for family, friends, homeless, out of work and all those with less fortunate than themselves.
One girl named Chloe kind of summed it up. She said: "My biggest Christmas wish is that the world will be safe and happy because it is not about presents it is about being happy for what you have".
But, what the heck, what do kids know anyway?
