So what would get YOU to come to Downtown Auburn Hills... or what do you think it NEEDS?

Tonight I attended a City meeting @ The Auburn Hills Community Center with the City Council and Government, with the business owners and Property owners, residents and renters, folks heading the churches, and non-profits...

There is still a great deal of passion left in the development of the Downtown area in Auburn Hills aka The Village Center at Auburn and Squirrel rds just south of M-59 or 1 mile north of South Blvd or just west of Adams rd.

The meeting was based on a new commitment over the next 5 years to bring the downtown to the next level as it was inm 2000-2005! A consultant firm has been hired to determine what and how the downtown can be a success!

For those of you that have been apart of the community in any way whether its as a resident, business owner, consumer, passer by, etc - what are your thoughts in what needs to happen or be created to make the downtown area a success and or draw you to the area? ie coffee shops, bars, theaters, business, farmer's market, better parking, parks, etc.

Here is some of the feedback we have gotten from those at the meeting and from my Facebook poll online in no particular order...

  • More unique Boutiques

  • More Bars

  • More options for eating out

  • Farmer's Market

  • Cater to the College Crowd from Oakland University

  • More of a community feel with more "festivals"

  • CVS, Rite Aid, Walgreens, etc

  • A upscale little market

  • A transit system from Oakland Univsity

  • Coffee Shop/s

  • Book Store/s

  • Bakery

  • Liveworks Created

  • Better Traffic Flow

  • Better Marketing for the actual downtown (awareness)

  • More patios created for outdoor eating

  • A towncenter / square

  • A multi use complex

  • Museums or Art Centers

  • Student Housing Downtown

  • A focus on attracting the business professionals from the surrounding office buildings all across Auburn Hills

WHAT ARE YOUR THOUGHTS AND IDEAS?

I am very interested in that area. I think the biggest thing that it lacks is simply awareness. People who come to that area like it. However, not enough people know about that little corner of Metro Detroit. Perhaps, for starters, we should have an MCC event there to showcase the area.

I know a couple of the business owners and landlords there and could help organize an event.

We have a meeting Wednesday with Laurie Johnson, City of Auburn Hills, to view possible locations.  Any thoughts??? For another location of Maceri's Soup & Scoop.
