Smart parents are the foundation for smart kids! That being said, what makes a smart parent? In this teacher's opinion there are several qualities of a good parent. There are many smart MCC parents out there. I am interested in hearing what you think smart parents do to raise smart kids.

I can tell you smart parents are mean parents. Just ask my kids. I must brag on my son. He is graduating from Wayne State with his bachelors this coming Spring. After only 3 years in school. and he has been accepted to Michigan State Law school with a 75% scholarship. It will be cheaper to go to Law School then his under grad was. Now that is a smart kid.....
I am the parent who says NO!! I am the parent who has to know what, where and why. I am the parent that constantly tells my children I am their parent and I do not care what other parents may think or do. I am the parent my kids blamed when they could not go somewhere. I am the parent that my kids can blame for getting out of sticky situations.
I am the responsible adult who chose to bring these kids into the world. It is my responsibility to make sure they are taught right from wrong. I am the parent that takes responsibility for my kids and their actions. Trust me, the punishment at home is much worst than any school or legal enforcement can dish out.
I can say that I have a tough job. but it is very rewarding. The best compliment came from a junior high school principle. He told me that if more parents were in tune to their children like I am with mine, his job would be much easier.
The most rewarding of raising children is when they have their own children and call you on the phone and said Mom, you were right.
Thanks for your reply, Lisa! Those are wonderful qualities of a Smart Parent! As you know, no one ever said parenting was easy. There are so many aspects of raising happy, healthy children! Discipline, responsibility and compassion are a good beginning. I remember thinking after the birth of my third son that three children was enough and that I would wait for that little girl in a granddaughter. Happily I can say I now have one granddaughter with two more on the way. Raising children is a lot of work but I agree with you Lisa, it is very rewarding!
