Why do I need to setup a DNS server in my domain settings?

Hello,

What is this DNS for? For example, my router already has a DNS server from the internet provider, which I changed to google's 8.8.8.8. I understand that when I query a domain, my browser will consult 8.8.8.8 to see which IP is the domain on. But what is the purpose of these DNS servers I set up in the domain's management site? For example, I know that I can simply set a A record to the IP of the host.
Why would I need this DNS server?

Please help..
Thanks.
