GIVING is the new Getting

If you’ve been networking for a while you’ve no doubt heard the phrase “Givers get”. It’s so very true. And there are so very many ways to give.

I speak to people all the time who say they want to be more involved. They want to help the community. They want to give back. The one thing they have in common is that they are not sure how.

It seems so easy. Find a cause that resonates with you and do something. Anything. Whatever they need. But maybe the hard part is finding the right cause. Today we are going to talk about two of them.

Operation: Kid Equip

OKE is an organization that supports almost 100,000 children in the Metro Detroit area. They provide them books, school supplies, some food and even hygiene. There are so many children (and their parents and teachers) that rely on the great work OKE does.

Yesterday (7/10/13) their building flooded and they have to get rid of thousands of dollars worth of supplies. They need your help to have more supplies delivered. You see the supplies aren’t the challenge…it’s getting them delivered that is hard to afford. You can read more about the flood (including a nice piece that aired on Channel 7) HERE or you can simply make a donation of even $10 on their site HERE.

Life Remodeled

What do you get when you cross extreme home makeover with counseling to support new and better habits? You guessed it…life remodeled. These do-gooders are going to give one lucky family a brand new home that will be built by volunteers in a week’s time. But that’s not all. They are going to fix up 20+ homes and board up 150 in a 48 block section of Detroit starting July 29-August 4.

And they need your help. They are seeking 5,000 volunteers over this time to make a difference. That difference could be helping to build a home or paint a wall or pound a nail or mow a lawn or push a broom. There is a lot to do and as our friend John George says “Many hands make for lighter work”.

Details on how you can get involved are HERE.

Do let us know what we can do for you.

Be connected-
