Manufacturing in Michigan

Good morning to my Motor City friends.  Wanted to spark discussion on the current state of the manufacturing industry in Michigan. A few quesitons for thought...

How has the current economic situation in Michigan affected your business?

If it has not, why do you feel your business has been sheltered?

Where do you see as the future of the industry here?

Since I asked, it's only fair that I go first.

My two companies David Richards Engineering and PGS Commodity Supply have been affected in different ways.  Since DRE is mostly a regional company, we have been hit pretty hard.  PGS started out as a regional company, after a couple of months in we changed the business model to focus primarily on ecommerce.  This has had a major impact on keeping the doors open for both business.

So how has it been sheltered?  By opening up essentially the world market to our products, we have gained access to those who even though they are down business wise, have turned to the internet to find cost savings.

Where do I see things?  It's tough to say.  The industry will be different for sure.  There will be fewer companies, which I believe will be leaner and stronger, more readily able to adapt to change.

Many Michigan manufacturers and service providers are ready to break out of the continuing Mighigan recession. They unfortunately do not know how, do not have the contacts, or feel it would be too costly to reach across Michigan's borders.

Our organization, MBC Global, recognized this problem several years ago. Through much hard word we were able to introduce the Sell Michigan program yesterday. It provides an effective way to get Michigan companies connected to the global economy with any financial investment.

It would be great to have your, and others, visit the sie and see how they can benefit from the world's economic hot spots. Contact me through the site if it looks promising to you - or let me know how to make the program even better.

Thanks for taking to time to reply.  How has the response been to Sell Michigan?

Response has been somewhat disappointing. We have added only a dozen companies to our referral list. Perhaps people underestimate the world's interest in what Michigan has to offer.

We currently have several large buyers that we are scrambling to find suppliers for.
