How to get on the front page of www.businessweek.com
As a true believer in the power of social media but still one who is learning the "immense" power of these tools, I thought I would share a recent story.
I blog, I podcast, I twitter and more.
But what I think is really more important and a must before diving into social media is reading what is out there on the subjects that matter to you most. Whether it is for personal or business reasons, being connected via knowledge is essential.
Participating in conversations on your favorite blogs, articles and on twitter can be extremely powerful. Not only do you learn, network and participate in the web and social media space but this activity can have unknown benefits.
I read a recent article on twitter on www.businessweek.com that Shauna from Biznet recommended in a tweet last week. This article was about how large brands are watching what people are saying about them on twitter and how they are participating with the twitterverse to manage their PR. I commented on the story with an experience I felt shared the intent of the story. (some folks comment only to showcase their business - and that is a true pet peeve of mine - please make your comment relevent to the conversation)
A Business Week editor contacted me that same day and requested a head shot and wanted to spotlight my quote on their front page.
Not only did I get to learn something - which came from a recommendation - I got to contribute and on top of it all - I got some PR. Now that is the power of Social Media.
Go forth and participate. You never know what you may get.
