"On Your Birthday" Can it be as rewarding to give as receive?
Hi people, I just had another thought. Who has a birthday coming up? Have you ever thought about celebrating by giving as opposed to receiving? There is a great local group called "On Your Birthday". On your birthday you can donate $30.00 to this group and they will provide a gift in your name to a child in need. I don't know about you, but I think this is fantastic. Think of the absolute joy you feel when you receive a gift that is totally unexpected. Then think how much more profound this feeling is for a child whose emotions are not yet compromised by lifes experiences. By giving you give an impressional mind a positive experience to build on. I think that's fantastic, how about you? Check out their web site: www.onyourbirthday.org
Gee, I just had another thought, maybe this is something MCC can wrap its' loving arms around and help support this fine group. Check out their web site, tell me what you think.

That's Impressionable mind, not confused like mine.
If a celebrant has an organization of which they are passionate about,
then it is a logical extension of who and what they truly are. The idea of receiving tribute gifts comes from where you're at in the
hierarchy of needs. If you are up where you are more self actualized,
then this kind of gift will be well received.
When I worked for a non-profit, several families would give tribute gifts to us in honor of Aunt Gertie, rather then giving her a sweater which would sit in the bottom of a dresser. I found this kind of giving to be cultural to some types of donors.
Others whom I later discussed this with had different takes. Some thought that their family members would want the gift and the donation in tribute. One woman said if it meant 'no cake' on her birthday, she would be sad all day.
I once met a man who donated blood to the Red Cross on his birthday, and his mother's birthday every year.
He said it was a present to himself.
Duane, this is a wonderful cause. I'm doing it - and hope to find a child whose birthday is the same (or close to) my own.
Thank you for bringing it to our attention!
