With all of the negative national attention our state gets, it's a delight to see fantastic stories like this one about our beloved Mackinac Island in the L.A. Times: http://travel.latimes.com/articles/la-tr-mackinac27-2008jul27
Check it out. We Buy Michigan Now folks hope it brings a ton of uptight Hollywood types to the island to disconnect...and scout locations!

Oh Fudge! What a great article - the thieving seagull story, the with-fresh-eyes description of the veranda at the Grand Hotel - - made me want to hop in my car and head north...
This is great! I have never been to Mackinac Island but as I read the description from my hometown paper, it sounded a bit like Catalina Island. Now I am intrigued. I will have to plan a visit there, it sounds nice. Thanks for sharing the article. It is really neat to share the good things that happen in the state. Ahem, all Hollywood types are not uptight. :-)
Karen Swim, Michigander by way of Sunny SoCal :-)
Karen - if you've yet been to Traverse City, stop there on your way to Mackinaw. The town itself is great fun in the summer, and just a short drive from the Sleeping Bear Dunes - a great place for a long, sandy hike to the Lake Michigan Shore, with an interesting story from Native American lore.
Linda, it sounds lovely! Thanks for the recommendation!

I've got a lot of those Hollywood type friends, Karen, and you're right, they're definitely not all uptight. We do hope both those who fit that bill and those who don't will visit Mackinac though. It is still one of the best places in the world for any of us, even wound up Michiganders, to disconnect to an earlier time. I hope you make it there soon. Thanks for representing from the left coast!
LOL! Thanks Lisa for embracing the left coasters! I can't wait to visit Mackinac and report back!
