Looking for an Art Gallery connection

I was having a great conversation with a business friend yesterday who is looking to connect with the owner of an Art Gallery in the Birmingham area, preferably. He has a great new artist who, by chance, was struggling to make ends meet. She ended up without a place to call home until the folks over at COTS located an apartment for her. Long story, short - as the rep from COTS helped her move the few boxes of personal items into her new apartment, a box fell open and revealed these amazing African paintings. She hadn't picked up a paintbrush in sometime, yet was shy to admit she had painted them.

This friend has now taken on the task of finding an art gallery that would host a mixer for this artist, house her work for an evening or so and potentially work with her to sell pieces to the public. The art gallery could retain the profits from framing -- the woman to retain profits from the work.

Ready to help this woman out? Please pass the information along to me and I'll make the proper follow-through. Thank you so much!

Chris,

I just talked with a lady named Nancy at the Detroit Artists Market. This may not work for you, but they are currently evaluating new artists for a show they are doing in the spring. They need about 10 digital photos on a CD to evaluate. If your artist is chosen they put her works in a show an split the sale with 2/3rd going to the artist. The phone number is 313-832-8540. They need the discs with the photos on it within ten days. their web site is: www.detroitartistsmarket.org

I forgot something. If you page down to DAM Call for Entry click and it will give you registration procedures.

I hope this helps

I'm old minds fragmented. The May 31 entry deadline has been extended. You have ten days left to deliver a CD with photos of the Artist's work to them.

One last thought. If MCC members can create a good quality CD for this lady that CD can be sent to all the galleries in the area. Maybe one will bite.

There are wonderful galleries in Detroit that might be interested.

Black Lotus Brewery in Clawson has indicated that they have walls and need artists.  They have hosted for a month at a time in the past and are interested in doing so moving forward.  You can also set this artist up with a profile on www.DeepCanvas.com to connect with other Creatives in SE MI.

I wanted to thank everyone for the information - and please feel free to continue to post options. I have forwarded the posts thus far to my friend who's coordinating efforts for this woman. It, as always, was simply divine that he just 'happened' to mention in passing this woman and his work to help her. So I am thrilled to even be a stepping stone in the process.
