Thanks for posting... it is already working for me!
Wow Keith! What a great post! Hopefully others how are nervous about or new to networking will see this and take a look. I'll also add a personal plug here: Toastmasters is a GREAT way to improve your social skills, ability to commuincate with others, and build your confidence for a low cost and flexible time investment. Anybody interested in further information on Toastmasters, let me know.
Great summary video, Keith! As I reflect, we can know all the right things to do and won't get any results until we get out there and start interacting with people -- doing things like this video recommends. Then it is helpful to look at what worked and what didn't and keep retooling it. Hopefully, we will all make mistakes along the way and see them as opportunities to grow and get better at networking. I see the whole process as fun!
Scott is right! Networking is a lot of fun if you embrace it! I'm having the time of my life by going to new events and meeting new people. If I meet 20 new people in a week these days, I feel very warm and happy!
BTW, I met Scott "on my phone"! Al or Sandy from InSights had told Scott about me. Scott called me because he had two contacts that might want to do business with my company. There was no direct financial business gain for InSights or Scott in what they did, but, I will always remember that call (in May this year! And I still remember the stretch of road I was driving on! Talk about making an impression!) Later, I met Scott at a couple of networking events at InSights. He is a great, and positive chap, and I'll always refer him when I can. Which reminds me Scott, I DO HAVE A REFERAL FOR YOU! Drop me an e-mail when you can!
You never know when you might get that call!
All the best,
David.
Its very good short and sweet video on networking.A great way to get networking started.
To be honest networking is a fun experience. I have ( and will) meet several people, not necessarily for business reasons or with and agenda of getting/giving business but for the reason of getting to know someone about what they do.
I have enjoyed every bit of it .Networking is not only for business and interpersonal growth but it is a great learning experience as well.
Hi Keith; What a great little tool for those starting out in networking. It is also a gentle reminder that I have GOT TO GET a video up on YouTube....thanks for your post. Lin
Great video, and I do agree with David in saying that Toastmasters is an amazing organization to improve one's self. It's not just about public speaking, it's about leadership, thinking on your feet, social skills, problem solving, and having a great time meeting new people. If you're more towards the Flint area than David's area, contact me and I can give you more information on Toastmasters.
Though I do agree with the points in the video, one commonly overlooked point to networking is YOU MUST GET OUT MORE. Sitting on your computer networking is one thing, but unless you leave the house, nobody will really meet and get to know you.
