Just Say No...
One of my favourite blogs, Signal vs. Noise, had a great post on "saying no."
The idea is that there are things that aren't fits.. and just taking everything will overwhlem you. I know how that is - you gotta take the things that are business fits and don't dilute your "brand." It mentions a book, "Small Giants: Companies that Choose To Be Great Instead of Big" that I'm going to have to check out.
"One of the hot questions, of course, was about how chefs and
restaurateurs can put together a winning media strategy. On this point,
Bobby Flay of Mesa Grill and Bar Americain in New York City, urged
restraint: “You have to do smart TV,” he said. “It’s the things you
don’t do that make you. I was offered a Burger King endorsement, for
example. I don’t have anything against Burger King, but it’s not me. I
wouldn’t do it for any amount of money.”
If there is anything I've learned, taking "everything" is a bad strategy; if you work from a head space of famine, you will continue be in famine; a space of abundance brings abundance (the power of positive thinking, whatever you want to label it).
