We can't help you if we don't know how
When someone joins Motor City Connect, they get a welcome message from me on behalf of the Membership Committee -- not an automated message, a real one that I send live from my PC.
Seeing new members is sometimes very rewarding as I see synergies between us. More often it is a disappointment because there is not enough information for me to know much of the person. Look at Samuel Amanor's profile. He joined today and has enough information to allow me to know exactly what he does, how I can help him, and make an initial assessment of our potential synergy. He is the exception.
If you have not already done so, go to your profile and complete at least a few key areas (but better be challenged to hit 100%).
- Your ask: I cannot help you if I don't know what you need. Read "The Man in the Pond" on my blog and you will understand. I cannot gues an ask from a company name or job title. Do you want to increase your contacts to increase sales, be more effective at your current job, find mentors, build an entrepreneurial venture, find a new job, or something else? Tell me specifically.
- Your picture: To be honest I do not care what you look like. But experts agree that providing your picture makes an unconscious connection and raises one's comfort level. Imagine going to meet someone for the first time at Biggby's Coffee and knowing them immediately because you recognize them!
- Your website: Giving someone the opportunity to review your business helps them see opportunities. If you don't have a website, contact me. I know some great people that can get you in cyberspace.
These are just three key pieces of information I look at when I meet someone new on Motor City Connect. When they are not there, I wonder how serious the person is about building relationships. If you note, the most active and successful people in MCC have these areas, and others, completed on their profile.
Please take this as a gentle prod or challenge to complete or update your profile.
Thanks, Rick

Rick-
This is rock solid advice. Thanks for taking the time to make this post!
Rick - I second Terry.
Two other things I look for on a profile are your email address and your phone number. That way, I can reach out to you and connect!
And I can't emphasize enough the importance of your picture. As Rick said, I don't care if you're the reigning Miss America or the most handsome thing to come down the pike - I just want to know what you look like! I find myself almost automatically discounting people when they don't have a picture. And don't worry if yours isn't a professional portrait. Personally, I don't think mine is the best it could be, but it is there.
Rick,
Kudos for reminding everyone the need to communicate,
Last week we saw Josh Linkner's Presentation. and his "tothepowerofe.com" since then I have reading one mantra a day, and I want to do the 10 day cycle 10 time, and see how much it will effect me.
Today's mantra is COMMUNICATION.
I communicate with absolute clarity and precision. I am a vagueness atomic bomb, and
reject ambiguity. My speech is clear and effective. My writing is crisp and accurate. My
powerful voice expresses who I am and what I think. I speak words that are positive
and constructive. I am an active listener, and hear both what is said and what is not
said. I interpret information and synthesize the most relevant points. I am intensely
responsive. I speak the truth easily and effortlessly even in difficult situations.
If we could all do that, imagine how effective our networking would be...
