Hug Your Child Today

At this month's MCC Live in Sterling Heights we were asked to tell the group what charity we support the most. I felt awkward about mentioning mine because it is not a charity that is solving some horrid illness or curing some global problem. It is just a little memorial scholarship fund to remember someone that was very special in my life.

It was 1:33 on September 3, 1992, the 1,027th day of his life. Sleeping safely in his carseat he never saw the SUV or heard the crash. It was an instant, painless passage.

David was gone.

We wanted him to be permanently remembered and his life to account for some sort of lasting good so we took his insurance money and began a scholarship fund at Rochester College. We have never done fundraising for the fund (we are not wired that way) but we are happy that this year the fund reached a plateau where it can give scholarships and be self-perpetuating.

But that is not why I am posting this. Pick up on my comment about the David's instant death.

No last kiss. No last hug. No last, "I love you."

My purpose

This post is to urge you to take some time from your frantic efforts to build your business in this weak economy where sometimes it seems hopeless. But you forge on giving it your all to build a future for your family.

The future is already here. Stop. Breathe. Most of all take a moment today and everyday to hug your child.

I wish I could.
