Weight Watchers Group, LLC. Is hoping their new center will invoke a slim down in Motown.

The weight loss empire has opened a center right 3378 East Jefferson, in the Harbor Town Plaza. This is first new center to open up in downtown Detroit since 1973. The first location in the city was inside the Fischer Building.

"We really wanted to invest in the new Detroit. There is so much going into downtown we thought  it would be a perfect spot, making it easy for people to go from the jobs to a meeting," said President and Chair of the Board of the WW, Florine Mark.

Michigan has been hit hard by the obesity epidemic, with 64.8% of those who live in state being obese or overweight. Detroit's numbers are even more astounding. That is why Mark decided it was a pressing issue to get to the WW back in the heart of the city.

"We wanted to make it easy for people to walk, ride and drive to our center. We really want to do our part get the people of the city healthy," said Mark. The center is centrally located within walking distance of the Henry Ford Clinic and Hart Plaza, equipped with a bus stop right out front.

Now through August 31st if you join the WW at the Harbor Town or Hanan House location (4750 Woodward) you can purchase a 12 week pass for only $99, plus you get free registration.
