Flooding at Operation: Kid Equip on 7/10/13

This is the e-mail that supporters of Operation: Kid Equip (a non-profit that provides books, school supplies and other essentials to 10's of 1000's of Southeastern Michigan's less fortunate children) received from their founder, Menachem Kniespeck yesterday (July 10, 2013) at about 4:00 p.m.

HERE is a story Channel 7 action news showed last night. It has a good video too.

I share this in hopes that you may be moved to do something positive for our community. Please consider making a DONATION HERE on their website.

Today was supposed to be a day of processing hundreds of family applications, preparing school supply requests and sorting through books for distribution.

When we walked in this morning, we found the overnight storms flooded our entire facility, including the offices. There wasn't a spot of the building that didn't slosh when you walked.

Our volunteers have spent the day extracting water, moving products, taking down shelves, hauling desks, and ripping up carpet. It was a sad mess.

Lots of work being done to restore OKE

Our office and building will be closed until the middle of next week at the earliest.

Most everything can and will be replaced in the coming days; however, donated products are not insurable. We lost tens of thousands of dollars worth of paper products (spirals, composition notebooks and copy paper), backpacks, books, and other school supplies.

All of these ruined supplies were being prepared for distribution over the coming back-to-school months.

We need your IMMEDIATE help to replenish as many of the donated supplies as we can.

My best estimation is that it's going to cost thousands of dollars to source these materials, and to cover freight and other supply chain costs as well.

Your donation of $250, $100, $50 or $25 right now can help us start raising the necessary funds to begin immediately restoring our supplies.

Please CLICK HERE to make your donation online. Please reply back if you wish to donate in another form (telephone or mail.)

Please don't delay. The back-to-school season has started. There are thousands of kids counting on your support and help.

Yours for the children,

Menachem Kniespeck
President & CEO
