Can anyone PLEASE tell me WHY ESPN goes to commercial

during Detroit's pick during the NFL draft? I heard it is a "tradition." I was just wondering if anyone truly knows why... or has any more insight to this?
AND, do you really spend a whole day or two watching this on TV?
