How YOU can get the most out of Motor City Connect

On the off chance not being a part of it helps you get the most, let's start with HOW to remove yourself from the group.

It dawns on me that I haven't sent a note that explains how to gain REAL benefit from this group in a while. Since we've added a bunch of new folks, and lots of people have "Better networking" on their resolutions, today seems like a great time for such a note.

Make the most of this website:

You'll note in the orange bar on the site the words: Home, Communicate, Share, Network, Subgroups and Important. Each has additional tabs underneath.  For instance Communicate is where you find all the discussions. Share is where the Calendar is. Network is where you can see all the people and click on their profiles (some of you may want to add info to yours) Subgroups allows you to network with people in your geography or profession. Important has receipts for lunch and other announcements.

A while back I took a Sunday morning and put together some e-learning material that walks you through best practices on using each of these features. I don't take myself too seriously on Sunday mornings and I hope you will find value in these videos. Take a look at the topics and figure out which one (or more) answers your questions now.

The ASK

By far the most important purpose of this site is getting what you need. Fast. You do that by sharing your ASK. We have a discussion group for it and I would encourage you to post it three times (not all at once, wait a day or two between posting). Post it once in the ASK. Post it again as your Personal Objective (you'll find this on your profile). And post it a third time (again like 3-5 days later) in the specific discussion category. Why do this? Because each action puts it on the home page and different people will see it. 

Attend Live Events

We do them every Tuesday. 1st Tuesday of the month is Novi. 2nd is Troy. 3rd is 275 and 6 Mile (RSVP for tomorrow's event featuring a marketing discussion by Charlie). 4th is Royal Oak and on the months where we have 5 Tuesdays, we will be in the D. Our meetings are always from 11:30-1:00 and you will receive a reminder for them.

You can keep up with our events by checking out the calendar. It's great if you RSVP so we can all see who we NEED to meet while there. Our strategic partners like LA2M and a few select chambers also share their events here.

Use The Search function

I'll admit the search function here isn't great, but it is still worth trying. If you're looking for a CPA, type CPA into the search box and watch what happens. There is a training video on how to use Search.
