Is it easier for you to spare time or a dime?

I recently kicked off 313Dlove (our website) as a non-profit designed to positively impact Detroit. Our vision is clear: A Detroit whose self-worth is high, unemployment is low and who boasts an education system that is second to none.

We will achieve this vision by raising significant funds (the goal is $100,000,000) to pay the unemployed people to knock down the dilapidated houses. This will create a career path that includes non only "Deconstruction" but also rebuilding of homes, parks, gardens and other uses for the land.

Our belief is that a person's identity is tied to the work they do. Think about it...when you meet someone new one of the first questions either of you are asked is "What do you do?" Imagine if your answer was anything other than having a job. Those of us who have been unemployed even for a short period of time know the sting of that. There are people in OUR city who haven't had the satisfaction of work for a LONG time.

WE can change that. There are 4 million people in the Detroit metropolitan area. If just 25% of them gave $10 we would be in a position to do amazing things.
