The spirit of Detroit and Detroiters

Motor City Connect started because after spending ample time in 2005 and 2006 connecting with people all over the world through LinkedIn I realized one thing: Few of those connections cared about the resurgence of Detroit. I did. And I wanted to find and connect with others who did too. It was obvious back then that the only way the WHOLE DETROIT AREA had a shot at coming back was through a LOT OF US working together.

It's been an amazing ride over the past (almost) 6 years. And it keeps getting better especially since that Eminem/Chrysler Super Bowl Commercial (go ahead and watch it again). 

Since the advent of my new non-profit, 313Dlove (please give us a like on that facebook page or visit the 313Dlove website) I've had the opportunity to talk with a ton of passionate people doing amazing things. I want to share a few of them:

Transforming Detroit

Just got this yesterday and think it's totally worth sharing. In fact, it would be awesome if we all used this as our Facebook photo.

Tried to post a photo in here and have no idea if it worked. Will find out soon I guess. Heck, there may be two of them ;-)

Arise Detroit

Luther Keith was a writer for a Detroit newspaper who covered a lot of the grit and grime in the city. Upon retirement he decided to do something about it. Arise Detroit was born. Effectively an advocate of Detroit city non-profits, Arise Detroit's BIGGEST contribution will be realized on August 4 this year when they hold their 6th annual "Neighborhoods Day". On this day over 200 projects will take place throughout the Detroit area. You can click that link or check out the map of projects.

Life Remodeled

LOOOONNNNGGGGG time MCC member and tremendous supporter Mark Besh has been working with Life Remodeled for a while. This week the founder of this great organization, Chris Lambert and I connected. Chris has combined extreme home makeover with a wholistic approach that includes counseling, coaching and really preparing people to be able to stay in the home they build in just 6 days.

Bustup

Some of you have joined us for "Blood, Sweat & Gear" or other Blight Busters days and we are doing another one on August 11. Get your sledgehammer, axe and dirty clothes ready because it is time to "Bustup" another cracked out house in Brightmoor. We got some pretty good coverage from Channel 7 last year during the day of. This year they will be promoting it in advance. Let's go make a difference!!
