Is 2011 the year of the D?
I just sent this blast:
See schedule of events after this note about the Greatness that is Detroit.
Massive change generally takes time.
Picture where we were as a community 5 years ago. Jobs were going away. The big 3 were on the brink of bankruptcy. The mayor of Detroit was not fit to be called "honorable". The divide between the city and suburbs was huge. Businesses that may have considered moving downtown weren't quite doing it. Our community was getting beat down in the national media and worse, we were beating ourselves down too. I've often said we can't expect the rest of the country to stop beating us up if we don't stop it first.
It didn't really seem like we could possibly be on the right trajectory by now.
I think the subject line would be true if the year ended right now and it will be even more positive come December 31. Think about all of the great things which have happened here so far:
The Lions went 4-0 in September. Hasn't happened in over 30 years. And this Monday they will host Monday Night Football.
The Tigers are going to the ALCS
TEDx Detroit inspired the over 1500 in attendance and donated $21,500 to non-profits
The Big 3 are back and leading the way in quality and innovation while experiencing record sales
The Chrysler ad featuring Eminem put people on notice about "What we do".
A 43 page spread shared with Delta travelers that talked about the good and the better of Detroit
The Red Wings were playoff bound for like the 20th season straight
The Believe in Detroit campaign has launched
We've had limited city corruption charges (that's an improvement)
BC/BS and GM put together a huge deal that brings the blues downtown.
Lots of commercial property being occupied and 100% occupancy on Lofts downtown
And so, so, so much more.
The shift in energy has been amazing.
Can you feel it? Are you a part of it? Are you looking at ways to be more plugged into? How are you experiencing it for yourself? How can we share that experience?
Now is the time to catapult Detroit back into greatness. We need to keep moving forward. And we need to do it together.
Take a moment today and answer the question "What do you love about Detroit?". While I would appreciate it if you would write something here on MCC, it would be great to do it on Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn or wherever you find yourself.

I would add too - the number of Companies and Employees moving downtown. The buildings that are being bought to host the next Generation of Intellects. Just between Quicken Loans and Blue Cross Blue Shield you have over a 5,000 people moving into the city this year. Now that's huge. It also seems like every other week there is a restaurant being open.
