How Will You Be a Part of Buy Michigan Week?
It's official, the governor has proclaimed the week of July 27th as Buy Michigan Week so that we can draw extra attention to the many great Michigan-based businesses and Michigan-made products our state has to offer. To celebrate, we at Buy Michigan Now are throwing a weeklong festival with our friends in Downtown Northville...We're also helping businesses and communities all over the state to promote themselves and their products...We're asking residents to show our business community that we will support them by taking our Pledge...We're joining with other great organizations to participate in community service projects...We're enlightening people and bragging about our great state...And that's just some of what we're doing!
I'm challenging each of you to be a part of transforming Michigan's economy and our image, especially during Buy Michigan Week July 27-Aug 2. We can do it, if we all work together. Please share how you plan to make a difference that week. If you need ideas, please ask. If you have ideas, please share! Think Michigan First!

Buying Michigan is only a part of the solution to our state's economic woes. As many readers point out Michigan buyers do not have the buying power to catapult us back to prosperity. What we really need to do is Sell Michigan.
MBC Global just started the Sell Michigan campaign (see http://sellmi.mbcglobal.org) to connect Michigan businesses with buyers in the world's economic hot spots. The program is creating and retaining Michigan jobs by selling Michigan's inginuity and creativity to countries that have chosen not to participate in the whiny "global recession".
Selling Michigan is also something we can all do by talking with others, in and outside of Michigan, about the greatness of our state. From the "smarts" already mentioned to our wealth of recreation and natural resources, this state truly has a lot to offer.
